Requirements
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent working knowledge is required.
  • At least one year of Certified Nursing Assistant experience is required.
  • The ability to train and mentor other employees is required.
  • The ability to float to other areas of the facility is required.
  • Completion of a preceptor education course is required.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • A current Certified Nursing Assistant license in the state of practice is required in accordance with regulatory requirements or facility/department policy.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills and the ability to lead other employees are required.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, computer literacy, and keyboarding skills is required.
  • Variable shifts and hours, and on-call duties, may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse and/or licensed physician, and be accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under the role's direction.
  • Observe, contribute to the plan of care, implement, report, and document patient care in accordance with department policies, standards of care, and state scope of practice.
  • Use specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to contribute to assessment and to plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to patients' physical and developmental ages.
  • Assist with daily living and basic hygiene, maintain patients' mobility, handle patients safely, provide oxygen and infection control, assist with nutritional intake as needed, and provide end-of-life care.
  • Collect patient specimens and data, including vital signs, glucose testing, input/output, and other delegated measurements, document objective data and routine care, and assist with specimen transportation.
  • Recognize and report abnormalities or changes in patient health status and responses to treatment, and communicate patient status accurately and completely to other caregivers to promote continuity of care.
  • Perform procedures and use equipment as delegated by a licensed professional and consistent with demonstrated competencies and state scope of practice; procedures may include blood draws, Foley catheter removal, electrocardiograms, electrocardiogram monitoring, and bladder scanning.
  • Provide supplies, support, and assistance to medical staff and patients for unit-specific procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed professional.
  • Understand and incorporate infection control standards.
  • Maintain office, dietary, and medical supplies; complete requisition forms, reconcile delivered orders, and monitor and track electronic equipment such as patient identification scanners and laptop computers to ensure they are accounted for and working.
  • Perform receptionist and clerical duties to support operating efficiency and communication throughout the department, and participate in resolving customer problems or collect relevant data and refer issues for resolution.
  • Mentor, train, and teach other staff, and participate in performance improvement projects.

  • Additional related education and/or previous leadership experience is preferred.
