Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Less than five years of post-degree engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including extra hours or off-shift testing schedules.
  • Ability to wear company-issued personal protective equipment in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
Responsibilities
  • Operate advanced test bed systems and direct hands-on system checkouts and active testing sequences.
  • Serve as the dedicated system engineer for assigned facility equipment, executing minor design and analysis tasks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Develop test operational requirements, including test period directives and detailed run programs, while verifying that test article mounts are structurally sound.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary engineers, physicists, and skilled craft technicians in the test control room to operate facility systems.
  • Respond rapidly to alarms and alerts to ensure the safety of the crew, facility, and test article.
  • Diagnose system malfunctions during active testing, lead immediate troubleshooting, direct corrective maintenance, or escalate issues to specialized engineers.
  • Coordinate with superintendents, supervisors, and planners to provide technical leadership to the craft workforce for work orders, lockout/tagout procedures, and critical lifts.
  • Maintain reporting and record-keeping, including Operations Center updates, test resumes, operating logs, and unplanned event reports.
  • Perform facility characterizations and calibrations and monitor facility performance to maintain accurate system capability maps and envelopes.
  • Support changing mission requirements by working extra hours or off-shift testing schedules.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior internship or co-op experience.
  • Practical application of mechanical engineering systems, engineering methods, construction methods and materials, and computer-aided engineering and computer-aided design tools to engineering problems.
  • Multidisciplinary knowledge or experience in electrical engineering, mechatronics, or control systems.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment with flexibility to accomplish mission objectives.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience building relationships across engineering and the craft workforce.
  • Organizational skills to track and facilitate progress on projects.
  • Proactiveness and initiative to drive results.
  • Technical curiosity and desire to seek understanding.
  • Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.
