Requirements
  • Applicable state or county licensure is required.
  • Food Manager Certification is required, or the ability to obtain it.
  • The employee must handle food safely and follow food safety, infection control, safety, loss prevention, and personal protective equipment protocols.
  • The employee must use basic mathematical concepts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions, in practical situations.
  • The employee must communicate effectively and identify and interpret written information.
  • The employee must be able to stand or walk for extended periods and move throughout the community and resident apartments.
  • The employee must occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, or balance.
  • The employee must lift up to 50 pounds independently and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare, portion, and serve food according to the menu cycle and standardized recipes.
  • Taste and prepare food to determine quality.
  • Prepare special dietary meals as directed by the Dining Services Director or assigned menus.
  • Determine food and supply needs and coordinate meal production with serving hours.
  • Document temperature logs, taste panel forms, and cleaning schedules.
  • Assist with the orientation and training of new kitchen staff.
  • Handle food in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Practice safety and loss prevention procedures.
  • Attend required in-service sessions.
  • Maintain infection control safety standards according to Cedarhurst guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate food temperatures by following cooling and heating procedures and ensuring equipment operates properly.
  • Remain current with food safety licensing requirements from the Food and Drug Administration, state, county, and local authorities, and ensure compliance with those guidelines.
  • Support effective communication between community staff and residents' families regarding residents' physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with others, take direction from management, and use initiative to support conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience as a cook is preferred.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation or Basic Life Support certification is preferred.
  • Proficiency with common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Excel, and Word, web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and applicable human resources systems is preferred.
