Greenfield Global, Bullard and GE Appliances win KAM manufacturing awards. October 15, 2026 LEXINGTON, Ky. - Greenfield Global, Bullard and GE Appliances earned top company honors in the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers' 2026 manufacturing awards, while two Shelbyville manufacturing leaders received individual recognition. KAM announced the winners during its annual Kentucky Industry Conference Awards Dinner in Lexington. The awards recognize manufacturers, employees and executives for their contributions to their businesses, workers and communities. Greenfield Global's Shelbyville operation received the Small Manufacturer of the Year Award. The company produces high-purity alcohol, specialty ingredients and renewable energy products, with operations across North America and Europe and customers in more than 50 countries. KAM recognized the Shelbyville facility for strategic investment, continuous improvement and a commitment to giving employees the tools and opportunities to improve the business. Cynthiana-based Bullard earned the Mid-Size Manufacturer of the Year Award. Founded in 1898, the fifth-generation family-owned company manufactures personal protective equipment and employs more than 300 people worldwide, including 225 in Kentucky. Bullard's history includes the development of its Hard Boiled hard hat, which inspired its first fire helmet. In the 1930s, the company designed a supplied-air respirator system to protect workers sandblasting steel during construction of the Golden Gate Bridge. It later developed an aluminum hard hat and became an early manufacturer of injection-molded thermoplastic hard hats. GE Appliances received the Large Manufacturer of the Year Award. The company shipped its first appliance from its Louisville headquarters in 1953, and the location has served for more than 70 years as its largest manufacturing site, research and development center, and innovation hub. Brown-Forman Corp. presented the three Manufacturer of the Year awards. Keith Trumph, human resources manager at Troy Design & Manufacturing Co. in Shelbyville, received the Manufacturing Employee of the Year Award, presented by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. Trumph helped launch the company's Shelbyville facility, developing hiring methods, establishing a new site brand and helping shape its workplace culture. He also led the development and companywide implementation of a reward and recognition program. That work included creating recognition criteria, selecting and configuring an online system, and developing policies and procedures. The resulting platform allows employees throughout the company to recognize and reward one another. Logan Baker, founder of Shelbyville-based Impact LED Signs, received the KAM Manufacturing Executive Leadership Award. Baker founded the company in 2016 and has expanded it into a manufacturer with a national presence. KAM recognized his work creating Kentucky jobs, developing career opportunities, building patented technology and investing in young people and the community. "For over a quarter century, we have been celebrating the leaders, entrepreneurs, and companies that have meant so much to Kentucky communities and families at our annual awards dinners," said KAM President and CEO Frank Jemley. Jemley credited Brown-Forman and KCTCS for their continued support of the awards and praised the company and individual recipients for their contributions. "Kentucky is better off because of the work of these companies, their leaders, and their teammates," he said. The awards dinner was part of the three-day Kentucky Industry Conference, co-hosted by KAM, the Metals Innovation Initiative and the Kentucky Manufacturing Extension Partnership. University of Kentucky women's basketball head coach Kenny Brooks delivered the dinner's keynote address. About the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers Manufacturing Awards KAM's manufacturing awards focus attention on the important contributions manufacturers and industry make to their employees, customers, and communities, and the impacts of exceptional manufacturing employees and executives on their companies and communities. More than 50 years of service: Earl Jones' legacy extends across GE Appliances and Louisville. Sep 29th 2026 GE Appliances Communications Earl Jones Receives 2026 Olmsted Stewardship Award After more than 50 years with GE and GE Appliances, Deputy General Counsel Earl Jones is preparing to retire with another part of his legacy receiving national recognition. On Sept. 25, the Olmsted Network honored Earl with its 2026 Olmsted Stewardship Award, recognizing nearly three decades of leadership and service to the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy. Earl has served as a Conservancy trustee since 1997, including as board chair from 2016 to 2018, and currently serves as board secretary. The award recognizes sustained stewardship of landscapes associated with Frederick Law Olmsted and the Olmsted firm. Earl was honored during the Olmsted Network's annual conference in Portland, Oregon, alongside park advocates and leaders from across the country. Nearly three decades protecting Louisville's parks. Earl joined the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy board in 1997 and has remained deeply involved ever since. Over nearly three decades, he has helped guide the organization through major capital investments, leadership transitions and continuing efforts to preserve and improve Louisville's historic Olmsted park system. That system includes 17 parks and six parkways designed as an interconnected network linking parks and neighborhoods across Louisville. For Earl, that work has always been about more than preserving beautiful spaces. It is also about who gets to enjoy them. When the Conservancy honored him with its Frederick Law Olmsted Award in 2019, Earl pointed to Olmsted's belief that access to beautiful public parks should not depend on income and described helping advance that vision as one of the great pleasures of his life. More than 50 years with GE and GE Appliances. For more than half a century, Earl has worked across GE and what is now GE Appliances, a Haier company, building a career spanning law, public policy and government relations. As deputy general counsel and longtime head of government relations, Earl has helped the company navigate regulatory and legislative issues and build relationships with policymakers at the local, state and federal levels. He has also helped secure significant public incentives in partnership with state and local governments across GE Appliances plant communities, supporting investments in U.S. manufacturing and the communities where the company operates. A lasting commitment to Louisville. Earl's civic involvement extends beyond the Conservancy. He also served as a director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and has long been active in Louisville's cycling community, including many years as president of the Louisville Bicycle Club. His connection to Louisville's parks, however, has been particularly enduring. When the Conservancy presented Earl with its first Frederick Law Olmsted Award in 2019, then-President and CEO Layla George credited his leadership with helping guide the organization through major investments and important transitions. From GE Appliances to Louisville's Olmsted parks, Earl's career has been defined by something increasingly rare: a commitment measured not in years, but in decades.

A longtime advocate for putting ideas into action, Nolan conceived and co-founded FirstBuild in 2014, creating an open co-creation community and microfactory that changed how GE Appliances develops new products. In 2023, he opened CoCREATE in his hometown of Stamford, Connecticut, combining manufacturing, design, education and community collaboration under one roof. His leadership has also helped drive a significant expansion of GE Appliances' U.S. manufacturing operations. Since 2016, the company has committed more than $6.5 billion to its U.S. operations, including a five-year, $3 billion investment plan announced in 2025 to expand manufacturing, modernize plants and bring more production to the United States. "The challenges facing the world, organizations, and individuals are enormous," said Des Dearlove, co-founder of Thinkers50. GE Appliances named one of Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators. September 9, 2026 Louisville-based GE Appliances also earned recognition in the Skilled Laborers category for fostering innovation among manufacturing and skilled-trades employees. LOUISVILLE, Ky. - GE Appliances has been named one of Fast Company's 2026 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators, adding another national recognition for the Louisville-based appliance manufacturer and its workforce. GE Appliances, a Haier company, also was named a winner in the publication's Skilled Laborers category, which recognizes companies that encourage skilled tradespeople to use their technical expertise to develop new products, improve processes and solve workplace challenges. Fast Company's annual Best Workplaces for Innovators program recognizes organizations that create cultures where employees are encouraged to develop ideas and turn them into products, processes and other business improvements. "Innovation isn't something that's handed down from the top," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances. "It happens every day when people see a better way and have the confidence and support to do something about it. That's the kind of culture we've worked hard to build, and we're honored to see it recognized." The recognition is particularly significant in Kentucky, where GE Appliances maintains its headquarters and a major manufacturing presence in Louisville. The company employs more than 1,600 engineers working in hardware, software and digital technologies at its Louisville headquarters. Employees across engineering, manufacturing, product development, software and operations are encouraged to identify problems, experiment with ideas and develop new approaches, according to the company. More than 1,000 GE Appliances engineers hold at least one approved patent. Several employees hold more than 50 patents, while the company's most prolific inventor has been credited with 119. One of the company's most visible Louisville-based innovation initiatives is FirstBuild, a microfactory and co-creation community where engineers and employees work with designers, makers and members of the public to develop, prototype and test new products. The model allows concepts to be evaluated and refined on a smaller scale before potentially moving into broader production. GE Appliances said that innovation strategy also is being applied to artificial intelligence. The company launched an AI Lab in 2025 to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence throughout its operations. Today, 100% of GE Appliances' nonproduction workforce has access to at least one AI environment, giving employees across different business functions opportunities to experiment with the technology and apply it to business challenges. The company also continues to expand connected-appliance technology. Recent developments include Kitchen Assistant and Cooking Assistant, powered by the company's SmartHQ platform and designed to assist consumers with meal planning, preparation and cooking. The Fast Company recognition comes as GE Appliances continues a significant expansion of its U.S. manufacturing operations. The company has committed billions of dollars to its domestic operations, investing in new manufacturing technology, equipment and production capabilities. Those investments also are intended to give manufacturing employees additional tools to improve processes and develop solutions on the factory floor. Louisville remains central to that strategy. GE Appliances operates Appliance Park, its sprawling manufacturing complex and corporate headquarters in Louisville, making the company one of Kentucky's most prominent manufacturers and a major component of the state's advanced manufacturing sector. The Skilled Laborers recognition also highlights a part of corporate innovation that can sometimes receive less attention: ideas originating on the manufacturing floor rather than solely in engineering labs or corporate offices. GE Appliances said its approach is based on giving employees closest to a particular job or production process the ability to identify problems and develop better ways of doing the work. The company said the Fast Company recognition reflects that broader philosophy that innovation can originate at any level of an organization and that employees should have opportunities to turn those ideas into practical improvements.
