Requirements
  • Hold a current Alabama registered nurse license.
  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia.
  • Hold initial certification and current recertification with the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
  • Demonstrate competency with anesthesia equipment and pharmaceuticals appropriate for the job.
  • Hold current certifications in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
  • Be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Be able to work onsite and maintain physical presence at the facility.
  • Be able to exert 20–50 pounds of force occasionally, 10–25 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Be able to work effectively in a team setting and assume responsibility for the health, safety, and confidentiality of others.
Responsibilities
  • Provide anesthesia and related services for patients in need under physician supervision and according to medically approved techniques and procedures.
  • Select and administer appropriate anesthesia techniques, medications, and adjunct drugs within established preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures.
  • Review patient charts, perform physical assessments pertinent to anesthesia orders, evaluate laboratory data, and formulate written anesthesia plans for surgical patients’ preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care.
  • Perform endotracheal intubation and extubation, as well as invasive therapy and monitoring.
  • Identify and manage emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Communicate and cooperate with staff at all levels while demonstrating sensitivity and respect for patients, families, coworkers, colleagues, and other customers.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards established through performance evaluations.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook and adhere to DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Identify and reduce unsafe practices and take appropriate action to reduce risks and hazards.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
