About the Job

Requirements

  • Four to five years of network engineering experience, with hands-on expertise in routing, VPN/site-to-site connectivity, segmentation, DNS, and firewalling.
  • Hands-on experience managing Software-Defined Networking programmatically or as code rather than appliance by appliance.
  • Strong public-cloud networking experience, ideally with Google Cloud Platform networking such as VPCs, peering, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Ability to operate on a Kubernetes platform, including Kubernetes and Docker, and occasionally write code.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform or similar, and CI/CD-driven GitOps workflows.
  • An SRE mindset involving SLOs, observability, and reducing operational toil through automation.
  • Ability to debug connectivity issues in a complex, hybrid network environment.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement network architecture, including cloud networking, VPN/site-to-site connectivity, segmentation, and routing across offices, ground stations, and test equipment.
  • Improve network security through segmentation, access controls, and connectivity hardening.
  • Manage the network as code through infrastructure provisioning, CI/CD, and GitOps.
  • Define SLOs for connectivity and ground-station availability, and own observability through metrics, logs, and tracing.
  • Investigate and resolve reliability issues through root-cause analysis and durable fixes, and reduce operational toil through automation.
  • Contribute to broader SRE reliability and incident-response work, including platform reliability and expansion, incident response, planning, and user support.
  • Coordinate with IT on network components that interface with employee physical infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with the Test-Infrastructure team to ensure test equipment is securely accessible.
  • Foster the SatDevOps culture.

Desired Qualifications

  • Grafana-centric observability stacks.
  • Network certifications such as CCNP or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with GitOps frameworks such as ArgoCD or FluxCD.
  • Interest or experience in FinOps and cost-optimized architectures.
  • Familiarity with security practices such as vulnerability scanning, threat detection, and risk mitigation.
  • Understanding of orchestration in resource-constrained environments such as space systems.
