- Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
- Family physicians must have membership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada.
- Specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
- Applicants must hold membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association.
- Applicants must have current Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
- Applicants must have current Advanced Trauma Life Support certification.
- Applicants must have current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
- Applicants without current CCFP(EM) or FRCPC credentials must have current ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and Advanced Airway certifications.
- Provide leadership in the resuscitation and stabilization of major trauma patients and critically ill patients.
- Assess and manage the full spectrum of emergency medicine presentations across all ages, including injuries, unexpected and undifferentiated medical and surgical illness, and mental health emergencies.
- Provide care and coordinate community-based, secondary-level, and tertiary-level health care.
- Operate within the bylaws, rules, and regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
- Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
- Work full-time for 1,340 hours per annum with rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Work current 8-hour or 10-hour shifts with 18 hours of double coverage per day, transitioning to 6-hour overnight and 8-hour daytime shifts as staffing increases.
- Occasionally rotate through other Northern Zone Emergency Departments to meet critical operational requirements.
- Emergency department training is strongly desirable and supported by the department.
