Requirements
  • A high school diploma, equivalent education such as a GED, or post-secondary education is required.
  • At least one year of interpreting experience, including six months of medical interpreting experience, is required.
  • A certificate of completion from a recognized Medical Interpreter Training Program confirming at least 40 hours of medical interpreter training is required, or the candidate must hold Certified Medical Interpreter certification through the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters or certification through the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters.
  • Successful completion of Northside Hospital's Interpreter Skills Test with a passing score is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide consecutive and/or simultaneous language interpretation for limited English proficient patients and families whose primary language is not English in relation to medical care.
  • Provide sight translation of relevant materials, including medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care, during interpretation encounters.
  • Translate hospital documents, including medical record forms and patient education materials, from English into the target language as assigned by the supervisor.
