Requirements
  • PhD-level systems neuroscientist with expertise in animal behavior tracking using deep learning algorithms and their causal link with specific neural circuits
  • Experience in computer programming (e.g., Matlab, Python) and neuroinformatics tools is a plus but not required
  • Experience in rodent work and basic surgical experience strongly recommended
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and ability to pass university background checks
  • Candidates should possess the ability to contribute to NIH-funded projects studying the influence of FDA-approved GLP-1R agonists on drug seeking and reinstatement in rodents
  • Strong motivation and willingness to engage with new approaches to neuroscience questions
Responsibilities
  • Study the influence of FDA-approved GLP-1R agonists on drug seeking and reinstatement in rodents as part of NIH-funded projects
  • Use aversive behavioral and neurochemical measures to track addiction development via intraoral delivery of a drug-paired taste cue (conditioned withdrawal) in male and female rats
  • Utilize techniques such as intraoral catheter fluid delivery, video monitoring of facial responses, operant conditioning, telemetry for anterior digastric muscle activation, and in vivo fiber photometry
  • Collaborate with a team to build a strong research program with complementary expertise; participate in ongoing projects and contribute to publications
  • Develop and apply deep learning-based behavioral tracking and establish causal links with neural circuits; prefer experience with optogenetic or chemogenetic manipulations and/or recording methods when possible
  • Prepare, execute, and interpret experiments; potentially engage in data analysis and manuscript preparation; undertake technical skill development as needed
Desired Qualifications
  • Expertise in circuit manipulation (e.g., optogenetics, chemogenetics) and/or recording (e.g., fiber photometry)
  • Experience with deep learning-based animal behavior tracking and its causal links to neural circuits
  • Proficiency in Matlab and Python; experience with neuroinformatics tools
  • Previous work with rats and basic surgical experience
  • PhD-level training in neuroscience or a closely related field
  • Ability to contribute to NIH-funded projects and publish results
