About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or certification in physical therapy is required.
  • A current Physical Therapist license is required. A Compact Physical Therapist license may be accepted, but a North Carolina Physical Therapist license must be obtained within six months of the start date or before Compact Privileges expire, whichever comes first.
  • Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, and transfer patients.
Responsibilities
  • Provide physical therapy services to patients with impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status; provide prevention and wellness services, including screenings and health promotion.
  • Serve as a resource for the team and department, participate in orientation of new staff therapists, physicians, and other health personnel, and participate in teaching activities for physical therapy and other health-related students.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning when synthesizing complex evaluation data, identifying diagnoses, and developing comprehensive plans of care.
  • Develop and update an appropriate plan of care in collaboration with the patient and family, with measurable long- and short-term goals and a defined discharge plan, tailored to the person's age and lifestyle.
  • Apply physical therapy in the context of the patient's age, total needs, and environment; perform age-appropriate competency skills in the area of practice and follow intervention protocols, altering the plan of care appropriately.
  • Discharge patients when goals are met or medical necessity no longer warrants intervention, and establish provisions for continuing services or follow-up as needed.
  • Meet competency requirements for evaluations in the area of practice and consistently meet patient-care productivity standards for the job classification.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to contribute to team productivity; use support personnel as appropriate and available; and support and participate in patient coverage across department divisions as necessary.
  • Assess the learning needs and capabilities of patients and caregivers, initiate patient and family education in a timely manner, use appropriate teaching methods and materials, monitor and adapt education, and ensure patients and families understand how to access further intervention.
  • Complete timely, legible, efficient, concise, and pertinent patient-care documentation that meets professional and departmental standards; provide clear, concise, relevant, and timely oral reports.
  • Complete required departmental data collection accurately and on time, and meet peer-review standards.
  • Provide clinical education experiences for students as requested by the supervisor and established by the Center Coordinator of Clinical Education; therapists with more than one year of experience take one to two students for a long-term clinical rotation and adjust supervision to individual student needs.
  • Provide outreach and learning activities as requested, which may include in-services on related topics, generating referrals, and interacting with volunteers or visitors.
  • Participate in data collection for research activities to enhance clinical outcomes.
  • Perform other duties related to the work described.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree or clinical doctorate in physical therapy is preferred.
  • Additional experience may be preferred at times.
