About the job

Requirements
  • The candidate must have 0–2 years of experience in a sales, customer-facing, or target-driven role; a first sales job is welcome.
  • The candidate must be genuinely comfortable making cold calls without referrals, inbound forms, or existing relationships.
  • The candidate must be resilient in the face of rejection while opening new markets.
  • The candidate must communicate clearly and confidently by phone, video, and in writing.
  • The candidate must be coachable, apply feedback within the same week, and ask for further feedback.
  • The candidate must be willing to partner with the Sales Development Representative by providing direction and feedback rather than only accepting meetings.
  • The candidate must be organized and self-directed enough to manage their day in a remote role without someone counting their hours.
  • The candidate must be curious about how different kinds of businesses operate and interested in developing software sales skills.
  • The candidate must be legally able to work in Canada and available to work North American business hours.
Responsibilities
  • Partner daily with the Sales Development Representative to agree on target account criteria, review lists built in ZoomInfo and LinkedIn, listen to calls, and provide feedback on what is working.
  • Accept, qualify, or reject each meeting booked against agreed criteria and provide same-day feedback.
  • Self-source a meaningful share of pipeline through phone, email, LinkedIn, and occasional trade shows.
  • Research each account before calls so the opening conversation is specific to the prospect’s business.
  • Learn the vocabulary of each new industry well enough to speak credibly with its operators.
  • Log every sales touch in HubSpot the same day and tag it by vertical and lead source.
  • Own each deal from the first meeting through signature, including forecasting, follow-up, and the outcome.
  • Run discovery calls using the qualification framework to identify operators’ problems, including missed calls, after-hours bookings, and staff time lost to phone work.
  • Deliver the BluSynq demo and connect the prospect’s experience to time saved and revenue captured.
  • Build and send proposals, handle standard objections, and close deals.
  • Hand new customers over to Onboarding and Customer Success with the context they need to get the customer live quickly.
  • Attend weekly one-on-ones with sales numbers, recorded calls, and one improvement focus.
  • Report which verticals are responding, including who answered, what resonated, objections, and whether further effort is warranted.
  • Share customer objections, competitive mentions, and pricing feedback with the team to improve the playbook.
  • Contribute to talk tracks and sequences after developing experience from making sales calls.
  • Within the first 30 days, become certified on the BluSynq demo and deliver it without assistance; agree on two target verticals with the COO and SDR, build lists, and launch outbound activity in both; establish the SDR working rhythm; and maintain complete HubSpot activity, next-step, and vertical-tagging records.
  • During days 31–60, meet weekly activity targets, maintain a live discovery calendar, run demos, build qualified pipeline in both test verticals, convert SDR-booked meetings at or above benchmark, add self-sourced opportunities, close the first deal, and provide an evidence-based read on vertical performance.
  • During days 61–90, carry full quota with three-times pipeline coverage, maintain a repeatable weekly sales rhythm, meet the agreed self-sourced pipeline share, document vertical conversion results and test a third vertical, and forecast deals accurately.
  • Meet the fully ramped KPI of 8–10 discovery calls per week across SDR-booked and self-sourced opportunities.
  • Conduct approximately 25 quality outbound touches per day, including live cold calls.
  • Meet the agreed self-sourced share of pipeline and disposition every booked meeting on the same day.
  • Deliver net-new customer closes and new annual recurring revenue, excluding the DockMaster customer base.
  • Meet the team benchmark for demo-to-close conversion, test verticals each quarter with a written assessment, and maintain pipeline coverage, forecast accuracy, and CRM data quality.
Desired Qualifications
  • Exposure to cold outbound, such as SDR/BDR work, retail, hospitality, call center, recruiting, fundraising, or another role with a target and script.
  • Experience selling into multiple industries or to small owner-operated businesses where the owner is the buyer.
  • Experience with a customer relationship management system such as HubSpot or Salesforce, or prospecting tools such as ZoomInfo.
  • Familiarity with marinas, boating, RV parks, campgrounds, storage, dealerships, or another owner-operator business.
  • Interest in artificial intelligence and automation, and ability to explain their practical benefits to people who do not need to know how the technology works.

About the company

Valsoft is a company that buys software businesses that serve specific, essential industries (like automotive and broadcasting) and helps them grow over the long term. It focuses on vertical market software—programs that are built for a particular industry—and keeps the acquired companies independent while giving them extra resources, best practices, and access to a global network. The core idea is to improve how these software businesses operate and expand their reach, rather than building new products from scratch. The main way Valsoft works is to purchase a niche software company, streamline its operations, and partner with the existing management team to drive steady growth. This approach sets Valsoft apart from others by emphasizing patient, long-term ownership and collaboration within a diverse portfolio of niche software. The goal is to create durable, profitable companies that continue to serve their essential customers efficiently and expand into new markets.

Valsoft acquired the Firebrand Group from Media Do International, the US-based subsidiary of MEDIA DO Ltd., in Japan. Founded in 1987 and headquartered in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Firebrand Technologies provides title management and metadata software publishers use to plan, manage, and distribute book data to retailers and trading partners around the world. Its flagship platform, Title Management Enterprise, runs the publishing workflow from acquisition through publication, keeping schedules, rights, costs, and metadata in one system of record. Supadu, founded in 2010 and based in London, United Kingdom, builds websites, ecommerce, and discovery tools that help publishers sell directly to readers and get more value from their metadata. Together, the three companies serve publishers of every size, from the Big Five to independent, university, and religious presses, along with the booksellers, librarians, educators, reviewers, and media who discover and promote new titles. "Firebrand, NetGalley, and Supadu are trusted names that publishers depend on every day. We're ecstatic to continue building and investing in the technology that helps a title from the moment it's created to the moment it reaches a reader. We're excited to partner with the passionate team that shows up every day to make life better and more productive for everyone in the book industry," said Anthony Caruso, Managing Partner at Valsoft. Firebrand, NetGalley, and Supadu will continue to operate autonomously, with their leadership teams and employees remaining in place. As part of the Valsoft ecosystem, the companies will benefit from shared expertise, operational support, and long-term investment, while preserving their entrepreneurial culture and strong customer focus.
