NetEase leans on legacy games as Q2 revenue hits $4.1B with 76% margin boost

NetEase reported second-quarter net revenue of RMB 30.1 billion, up 7.9% year over year, driven largely by established game franchises rather than new releases. Games and related services climbed 9.7% to RMB 25 billion. Gross margin in the games segment jumped to 76.1% from 70.2%, with gross profit growing 17.5% — more than double the revenue growth rate — due to lower revenue-sharing costs. Sword of Justice reached over 10 million active players on its anniversary update launch day, whilst Eggy Party crossed 700 million registered users. Non-GAAP net income fell to RMB 7.7 billion despite revenue gains, which NetEase attributed to investment losses. Management acknowledged execution issues with July's Sea of Remnants launch, admitting they "did not sufficiently lower the learning curve for players in the early stages.

NetEase could be 23% undervalued despite Q2 2026 profit decline

NetEase reported second quarter 2026 earnings with revenue reaching CNY 30.1 billion, though net income and earnings per share from continuing operations both declined year on year. The stock closed at HK$193.4, down 7.2% over 30 days and 15.47% year to date, though three-year total shareholder return stands at 26.92%. Analysts suggest the company could be 23% undervalued, with a narrative fair value of HK$249.78. NetEase is expanding globally with self-developed and licensed games including Marvel Mystic Mayhem, FragPunk, Once Human, and Eggy Party, which have performed strongly in overseas markets. The bullish case centres on steady revenue and long-term returns, whilst bears point to recent profit declines and share price weakness. Key risks include potential regulatory changes and higher R&D spending.
