The company saw record quarterly performance for both Ticketmaster and concert attendance. Ticketmaster generated revenue of $852 million, up 15%, selling 90 million fee-bearing tickets, an 8% increase. Concert revenue grew 8% to $6.4 billion, with fan attendance reaching 49 million, up 10% and the highest second quarter on record. The results follow Live Nation's settlement with the Department of Justice, which included up to $280 million in payments. The company reported $450 million in legal accruals related to ongoing litigation, including a jury finding of unlawful monopolisation. CEO Michael Rapino said more than 143 million tickets have sold through mid-July, over 14 million ahead of last year's pace.
Live Nation is set to report second-quarter earnings on Thursday after market close. The live events and entertainment company beat revenue expectations last quarter with $3.79 billion in sales, up 12.1% year-on-year. Analysts expect revenue growth of 7.8% year-on-year this quarter, down from 16.3% growth in the same period last year. Over the past 30 days, analysts have largely maintained their estimates. The company has missed Wall Street revenue forecasts multiple times over the past two years. Live Nation shares currently trade at $180.93, with an average analyst price target of $192.50. The stock has also gained 29.5% in the last six months, beating the S&P by 21.1%. However, analysts at StockStory remain cautious. Live Nation's annualised revenue growth has slowed to 4.6% over the last two years, well below its five-year trend. The company's operating margin averaged just 3.6% over the last two years, whilst free cash flow margin is predicted to decline from 6.5% to 5% over the next year. Trading at 135.7× forward P/E, analysts believe significant optimism is already priced into the shares.
