Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Maintain all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the assigned unit or department.
  • Maintain a current State of Florida registered nurse license or valid enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact multistate registered nurse license.
  • Maintain current Basic Life Support or Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Obtain Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, or Trauma Nursing Core Course certification when required for the assigned area; Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification is required for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and reliable transportation when performing Hospital Care at Home in-home nursing duties.
  • Have at least one year of experience unless approved by an AVP-level leader or above.
  • Have two years of acute care nursing experience for Hospital Care at Home assignments.
Responsibilities
  • Assess patient needs and develop or revise individualized plans of care based on patient needs and responses; evaluate progress toward expected outcomes.
  • Build respectful relationships with team members and customers while respecting diversity.
  • Advocate for patients and families.
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on the patients served in the assigned unit or department.
  • Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, or nurse clinician.
  • Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to plan and manage unit or department care effectively.
  • Serve as a role model for staff and support hospital and nursing department goals and strategies.
  • Apply growth and development principles across the lifespan to assess patient status and identify age-specific care requirements.
  • Coordinate care and delegate appropriately to other team members for an assigned group of patients.
  • Document patient care, including assessments, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety activities, in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and in using patient care and unit equipment required by the assigned unit or department.
  • Prioritize patient care according to evidence-based practice standards of care.
  • Identify and resolve problems effectively.
  • Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members according to patient needs and team-member capabilities and qualifications.
  • Communicate relevant patient-condition and unit-concern information to healthcare team members.
  • Provide a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
  • Recognize legal issues and patients' rights.
  • Collaborate with the education department and nursing leadership team to transition and support new team members and students.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance in accordance with applicable policies and standards.
  • Comply with Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Contribute professional nursing knowledge and skills to continuous improvement in healthcare practice and organizational outcomes.
  • Participate in, and potentially lead, unit-level or organizational nursing-practice and performance-improvement committees.
  • Participate in department and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching related to professional practice or role performance.
  • Use supplies efficiently and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Attend staff-development in-services, department meetings, and nursing committee meetings.
  • Partner with nursing leadership to identify professional development needs and maintain continuing education.
  • Administer care in the virtual hospital setting through the Patient Care Hub.
  • Use TeleHealth technology to assess patients, conduct virtual visits, identify clinical symptoms, apply critical thinking, and escalate potential decompensation.
  • Collaborate with in-home clinical, virtual Patient Care Hub, and support teams to meet patient-care needs.
  • Administer direct care in patients' homes in the Hospital Care at Home program.
  • Travel to and enter patient homes within the designated geographic region.
  • Work autonomously and productively in a hospital-at-home environment.
  • Use in-home virtual technology to connect with the Patient Care Hub and conduct virtual patient visits.
  • Address urgent and emergent patient needs as directed.
  • Transport and deliver requested items, equipment, and medications, excluding controlled substances and intravenous chemotherapy drugs.
  • Perform other assigned duties.

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County.
