Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and extensive trade or supervisory experience.
  • A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible production or operations leadership experience in shipbuilding, vessel construction, heavy industrial construction, offshore fabrication, or marine project environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large, multidisciplinary production trade workforces, including welding, fitting, outfitting, electrical, and paint, on complex new-build vessel programs.
  • Ability to operate computer systems and standard office equipment.
  • Experience with shipyard production management, material tracking, and quality or inspection systems.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles as required.
  • Ability to use required personal protective equipment in production and waterfront areas.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations, internal policies, and procedures, with the ability to comply fully with them.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safe execution of production, fabrication, assembly, erection, and outfitting activities supporting ship newbuilding and major marine construction programs.
  • Direct and oversee all production trades and phases of vessel construction, including steel fabrication, sub-assembly, block assembly, erection, outfitting, and painting, in accordance with work instructions and the master schedule.
  • Maximize financial returns on capital and human resources through workforce planning, cost control, resource allocation, and production execution.
  • Ensure production work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with contractual and quality requirements.
  • Monitor production workforce levels, equipment, facilities, and construction methodologies across steel fabrication, sub-assembly, erection, outfitting, painting, and test or commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate with Production Planning, Production Engineering, Procurement or Supply Chain, Quality, and Subcontractor Management to align production activities with schedules, work instructions, and material availability.
  • Provide field conditions, constructability issues, and engineering queries to Production Engineering and Planning to support as-built documentation and schedule adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's mission statement and Quality Management System.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate daily production operations across shipbuilding and marine construction trades.
  • Execute the detailed production schedule and provide daily and weekly progress and labor-actuals reporting to Production Planning.
  • Provide motivation and support to production reports and department employees so systems and processes are followed for accurate and efficient work reporting.
  • Participate in joint change-order impact assessments with Production Planning, Production Engineering, Procurement, and Quality before Corporate Legal Counsel review and execution.
  • Ensure production work maximizes safety, quality, productivity, schedule performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee steel fabrication, sub-assembly, block erection, outfitting, painting, and test or commissioning support activities, including first-line workmanship self-verification within the shared Inspection and Test Plan.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, classification society, environmental, and customer workmanship requirements.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with Production Planning, Production Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and subcontracted trade labor.
  • Identify and prioritize production material and component shortages for the joint Material Readiness Review.
  • Interview, hire, develop, and retain production supervisors, foremen, and craft personnel in coordination with Corporate Human Resources.
  • Provide leadership, motivation, guidance, performance evaluations, coaching, and professional development for direct reports and subordinate teams.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts involving production methods, lean manufacturing practices, facility layout, workforce development, and capital equipment investments.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence throughout production activities.
  • Work in all weather conditions, with regular and extensive time on the production floor and waterfront areas.
Desired Qualifications
  • Lean manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
  • Journeyman-level trade credential.
  • Advanced technical degree.
