California's $100B wealth tax plan could reshape infrastructure spending

California's proposed 5% one-time wealth tax on billionaires could redirect up to $100 billion into public spending, creating opportunities for companies with infrastructure, healthcare, and education exposure in the state. Nextpower, a Fremont-based solar hardware provider valued at approximately $12.2 billion, stands to benefit from California's decarbonisation push. The company generates around $3.6 billion from solar tracker systems and software, with strategic investments in US supply chain localisation providing competitive advantages. Tutor Perini, a Sylmar-based contractor with a $4.5 billion market value, builds roads, rail links, water systems, schools, and hospitals. The company generates $3.3 billion from civil works, $2.1 billion from building projects, and $970 million from specialty contracting services for US public agencies. Analysts identified 35 additional companies potentially exposed to California's infrastructure and public services spending.

TPC stock flat in post-market after massive +416% regular-hours surge.

TPC stock flat in post-market after massive +416% regular-hours surge. Tutor Perini is essentially flat in post-market trading, up just 0.01%, after a historic regular-hours session saw the stock surge over 416% from $16.70 to $86.23. Justin Hale Tutor Perini Corporation (NYSE: TPC) is seeing virtually no movement in post-market trading, with the stock up just 0.01% to $86.23 as of the latest print. The session volume of 696 shares reflects the typical thin after-hours activity. The stock's actual story today played out during regular market hours, when TPC surged approximately 416% from its previous close of $16.70 to above $86. The dramatic move pushed Tutor Perini's market capitalization to approximately $4.55 billion. What drove the massive regular-hours move. No specific news item or SEC filing in the available sources clearly explains today's historic surge. The discrepancy between the stock's fundamental data and its prior trading range suggests one or more of the following may be at play: * A significant contract announcement not captured in recent headlines * Short covering following an earlier sharp decline * A potential takeover bid or strategic transaction * An error or data anomaly in pricing feeds Recent Zacks Investment Research coverage has highlighted Tutor Perini's $16 billion mega-project portfolio, including a $4.6 billion Indo-Pacific pipeline opportunity, as potential growth drivers. A Seeking Alpha article from August noted that Q2 2026 results strengthened the bull case for the construction company. The stock's previous close of $16.70 had positioned TPC well below its 52-week range expectations, with analyst price targets averaging around $36-$91 based on historical commentary. Tutor Perini at a glance. Tutor Perini is a diversified construction company operating three segments: * Civil: Public works, highways, bridges, tunnels, and water management projects * Building: Hospitality, healthcare, transportation, and government facilities * Specialty Contractors: Drilling, foundation, and excavation services The company employs approximately 7,500 workers and serves both private and public sector clients globally. Key data points. * Current price: $86.23 * Previous close: $16.70 * Day change: +416.29% (regular hours) * Post-market change: +0.01% * Market cap: $4.55 billion * Avg. daily volume: 604,635 shares * Short interest: 1.8 million shares (2.97 days to cover) Looking ahead. Traders should monitor for potential 8-K filings or news releases that could explain the extraordinary regular-hours move. The post-market's flat performance suggests the initial catalyst, whatever it was, has already been priced in during standard trading hours. Thin post-market volume means the 696 shares traded represent minimal directional signal for tomorrow's session.
