Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current and valid Illinois driver’s license of the proper classification is required.
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic program and maintenance of a current and valid Illinois Department of Public Health license are required.
  • The ability to complete continuing education and testing requirements in the assigned system is required.
  • Successful completion of a professional and criminal background check is required.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing, including a fit-for-duty physical, drug screening, agility evaluation, and lifting evaluation, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and assess patients’ medical needs.
  • Administer appropriate medical treatment and interventions according to established protocols and guidelines.
  • Safely lift, transfer, and maneuver patients in and out of ambulances, facilities, residences, and other locations.
  • Communicate with patients, families, healthcare professionals, and other emergency responders to coordinate efficient patient care.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records and documentation for transport, equipment inspections, supplies usage, incidents, and other operational matters.
  • Maintain compliance with Paramedic Services of Illinois and Department of Health continuing education and licensure requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and complete uniform, personal hygiene, and a professional, pleasant, and polite demeanor while on duty.
  • Inspect and promptly report damage, deficiencies, safety issues, or other problems involving ambulances, company vehicles, equipment, supplies, or other matters relevant to safe and efficient operations.
  • Assist with vehicle, equipment, and station maintenance.
  • Participate in public education, public relations, public health safety programs, emergency medical service training, fire training, fire prevention activities, fire suppression, rescue, extrication, hazardous material situations, demonstrations, instruction, and other activities benefiting the company, contracting communities, or the general public.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals, or equivalent certification.
  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support, Basic Trauma Life Support, or International Trauma Life Support certification.
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor certification.
