Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • CMA, RMA, or CCMA certification or registration is required for hires after November 28, 2011, or must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Candidates credentialed through a formal training program that includes knowledge testing will also be considered.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within six months of hire.
  • Staff must be vaccinated against influenza as a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide clerical, clinical, and business support to the practice under the direct supervision of a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or physician.
  • Perform pre-visit work, obtain vital signs, reconcile medications, and assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization, and clean and stock examination rooms.
  • Respond to patient phone and portal messages on the same day, following standard work procedures and messaging policy.
  • Use standing protocols to complete pre-visit work, close gaps in care, administer vaccines, and complete prescription refills.
  • Schedule pre-admission and diagnostic testing and make follow-up calls to patients after surgery, as applicable.
  • Perform administrative duties such as greeting patients, checking them in and out, scheduling, answering phones, taking messages, organizing, filing, pulling and copying records, collecting copayments and balances, posting payments and adjustments, and balancing the daily journal.
  • Follow practice policies and federal regulations, including patient confidentiality, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection-control standards.
  • Participate in the daily huddle, complete required actions, and work with the care team to ensure communication among team members.
  • Perform scribing duties in some practices by accompanying providers during examinations and accurately documenting encounters; order provider-recommended labs, referrals, and prescriptions.
  • Monitor care-team metrics and outcome-improvement metrics.

Beth Israel Lahey Health rolls out Heidi's AI scribing to all physicians after 90% report better patient presence

Beth Israel Lahey Health is rolling out Heidi's ambient AI scribing tool to all its physicians following a successful trial across its facilities. The health system, which serves over 6,000 providers across 14 hospitals and 175 primary care practices, prioritises addressing physician burnout, with nearly half of US physicians reporting burnout. During a six-month trial offering Heidi to 1,000 providers, the majority adopted the technology. Survey results showed 89% were satisfied with note quality, 90% felt more present with patients, 74% reduced after-hours work time, and 82% experienced reduced cognitive load during visits. The implementation demonstrates how ambient AI can deliver immediate relief to physicians whilst benefiting patients and the healthcare system. Heidi supports over 2 million consultations weekly globally and has raised $96.6 million from investors including Point72 Private Investments and Blackbird.
