Optiver lines up $900 million debt to fuel trading expansion.

Optiver lines up $900 million debt to fuel trading expansion. Optiver Holding BV is seeking roughly $900 million in fresh financing to scale its market-making operations. The move underscores the firm's aggressive growth strategy amid a still-favorable trading environment. Optiver is shopping a $900 million debt package to fund an expansion of its trading desks, sources say. The Amsterdam-based high-frequency trader plans to deploy the capital to increase liquidity provision across equities, options, and derivatives worldwide. The financing push reflects the firm's conviction that electronic market-making remains a high-return business when unburdened by excessive regulation. Optiver is betting that lean, tech-driven liquidity provision will continue to reward disciplined capital allocation and rapid execution. Borrowing to grow is a straightforward capital-markets decision, not a policy favor. If Optiver can service the debt from trading profits, the only relevant question is whether regulators will invent new obstacles that penalize success rather than protect investors. Capital that flows to the most efficient players ultimately benefits markets and savers alike.

Optiver hired a partner from hedge fund Rokos in London.

Optiver hired a partner from hedge fund Rokos in London. 3 hours ago Chris Rokos of Rokos Capital Management may be on his way out of the UK, but some of his hedge fund's most senior people seem intent on sticking around. Andrius Jankunas, a partner at the firm who joined in 2018, has resurfaced with an electronic trading firm's London office. Jankunas joined Optiver as its global head of quantitative modelling and strategy. He held the same role for Rokos throughout his tenure there. Before that, Jankunas spent just shy of two decades at Goldman Sachs, holding a number of senior roles in its quant strat division. He was latterly EMEA and Asia head of commodities strats, but also held senior roles in credit, equities and fixed income trading. Jankunas spent the last two years out of the market while sitting out a noncompete period. This may soon be a thing of the past; Andy Burnham's UK government is planning to reform the labour laws surrounding non-competes, much to the chagrin of hedge funds. Optiver didn't respond to a request for comment, but it seems a particularly senior role to place in its London office. The trading firm is headquartered in Amsterdam, and has growing offices in both Chicago and New York. Its London office has been growing steadily for years, but it seems like a secondary location for the firm, with even the likes of its Sydney office offering greater average compensation last year. Tower Research hired an ex-equities portfolio manager to manage its risk.

Tower Research hired an ex-equities portfolio manager to manage its risk. 4 hours ago A lot of people want to work in an electronic trading firm. Many of them are willing to work in a non-investment role to do so, but it's a rarer case for someone with a history in the front office to join the middle. Pierre Danilowiez, formerly of SocGen, has done just that to work for Tower Research. Danilowiez joined the firm's Amsterdam office as a senior risk manager. He was most recently head of investments for Arbra, a multi-family office. His LinkedIn states that the role involved asset allocation for the firm's various investment teams, and the development of the firm's risk framework, which would lend itself well to a pure risk role. His role also involved "directly managing $100M+ multi-asset portfolios," which seems much more front-office oriented. Before that, he was a trader for 15 years. He spent five years as a portfolio manager at asset manager Key Capital Partners, where he claims to have managed a €30m AUM strategy in equities. He also spent a decade at SocGen, where he was a VP in equity derivatives trading. Danilowiez is a Grande École mathematics and engineering graduate. French-educated equity derivatives specialists are highly sought after right now; In London, Optiver hired Barclays MD Arnaud Heckenroth as head of exotics business development, suggesting that there's further room for algo firms to expand in the already competitive world of equity derivatives. Tower seems to prefer hiring support staff to traders right now. In 2025 accounts for its UK entity filed with Companies House this week, the firm revealed that headcount in its 'trading' unit fell by 18 while headcount in 'support/management' rose by seven. Tower did not respond to a request for comment on whether it made any cuts, or whether any staff were reassigned from a trading role into support.
