Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a user research-related discipline such as human-computer interaction, cognitive science, human factors, or psychology, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep expertise in user experience research methodologies for software and web-based products, with demonstrated product impact and a record of driving innovation and advancing ambiguous projects.
  • Experience with card sorting, usability testing, A/B testing, user interviews, surveys, diary studies, contextual observations, and first-click testing.
  • Experience incorporating artificial intelligence to assist with research activities, including building or maintaining agents or automating parts of the research process while keeping human judgment in the loop.
  • Ability to distinguish behavioral evidence from attitudinal or self-report data and judge when a research task calls for a human or an artificial intelligence agent.
  • Experience evaluating how to integrate artificial intelligence into research work, including using AI-powered tools or automating parts of the research process responsibly.
  • Ability to turn automation strategy into a built solution rather than only proposing it.
  • Ability to turn data into a business narrative connecting findings to implications.
  • Ability to interview clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to analyze, contextualize, apply, and synthesize research findings across multiple sources.
  • A portfolio showcasing relevant research work is required as part of the application.
  • United States citizenship is required because the position supports a United States Department of Education contract and foreign-national security clearance applications are not accepted or processed.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate within a cross-functional team and with analytical teams to develop a holistic understanding of customers' needs, values, and experiences.
  • Extract key experience, customer, and usability insights from large sets of quantitative experience data.
  • Identify research approaches based on research questions, timing, and resources.
  • Proactively identify research gaps, bring the appropriate people together, and propose research to close those gaps.
  • Own and extend the agentic user experience synthesis pipeline by maintaining existing agents, building new agents, and identifying research tasks suitable for AI-first or AI-assisted workflows.
  • Validate that agent-generated inputs and outputs are relevant, accurate, and unbiased before they inform decisions.
  • Turn research and synthesis work into reusable templates and standards for people and agents.
  • Follow established user experience team methods and help evolve those methods.
  • Transform raw scores into practical numbers and figures.
  • Prepare research reports and synthesize findings into actionable insights and recommendations for stakeholders using AI tooling without sacrificing rigor.
  • Translate research findings into implications for product roadmaps and company priorities.
  • Travel periodically to other Nelnet offices for team collaboration and on-site research.

Omaha's Grapple raises $1M to make data analytics accessible for nontechnical users

Omaha-based Grapple has raised $1 million in a pre-seed round led by Invest Nebraska and Nelnet, with participation from MOVE Venture Capital and Nebraska Angels. The startup develops an AI-powered platform that makes data analytics accessible to nontechnical users without requiring data engineering expertise. Founded in 2025 by Jack Sellwood, Grapple's software pulls information from various sources including databases, spreadsheets and apps like Salesforce and Quickbooks. The platform enables sales, marketing and finance teams to compile reports independently, saving businesses time and money. Grapple was recently accepted into California's LAUNCH Accelerator and has secured early customers including Nebraska startups Guardify and Workshop. The company will use the funding to expand its team, marketing efforts and go-to-market strategy whilst remaining based in Omaha.
