Requirements

  • Knowledge of health information documentation, including recording medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • At least 3 years of registered nurse emergency-room experience.
  • Prior leadership experience demonstrating management potential.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • A Pennsylvania registered nurse license.
  • A Bachelor's of Nursing degree.
Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the realization of the organization's mission, strategic plan, and values at the point of care.
  • Plan, lead, coordinate, and facilitate quality care and service for a defined patient population.
  • Facilitate the procurement of appropriate supplies and equipment and provide adequate staffing levels and skill mix for nursing care.
  • Provide leadership, consultation, and collaboration in a dynamic, multidisciplinary teaching environment.
  • Collaborate with administrators and healthcare team members to design, evaluate, and improve patient care systems and processes.
  • Support nursing professional development, Magnet, and Shared Governance through participation in and mentoring of colleagues on councils and the Clinical Ladder program.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistently with Jefferson's values.
  • Recognize patients and their families or designated care partners when providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on personal preferences, priorities, needs, cultural beliefs, and values.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate nursing care for a specific patient care area in collaboration with the Nursing Director and other nursing leaders and professional development staff.
  • Recruit, interview, and select staff for the patient care unit.
  • Provide leadership and direction in implementing strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate unit policies, procedures, and goals consistent with department and organizational goals.
  • Complete regular performance evaluations for each staff member.
  • Serve as a clinical resource regarding policies and procedures, patient standards, performance improvement, and risk management issues.
  • Conduct evaluations for new staff before completion of the probationary period with input from appropriate nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills and counsel employees using the disciplinary process as appropriate.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate staffing plans to meet patient and family care needs.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate improvement areas and unit improvement programs or projects within a shared governance model.
  • Manage continuous quality and regulatory directives, including JCAHO and OSHA.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate the unit patient satisfaction plan.
  • Serve as a clinical resource and role model to healthcare team members.
  • Assist professional development staff with creating and implementing educational programs.
  • Recommend, participate in developing, and implement policies and procedures.
  • Seek opportunities for nursing research.
  • Collaborate with professional development staff to set minimum competencies and oversee ongoing staff professional development.
  • Manage available resources so the patient care area operates within budget limitations.
  • Identify costs and revenue opportunities and assist in developing cost-saving activities.
  • Collaborate with the Director or ACNO on budget forecasting.
  • Educate healthcare team members on cost-efficient care, appropriate staffing, and efficient use of material resources.
  • Monitor staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing and maintain quality patient care.
  • Authorize overtime or scheduling changes to fill shifts as necessary.
  • Complete payroll in collaboration with the assistant nurse manager or patient care coordinator.
  • Provide staffing volumes and adjustments reflecting staffing-need variances within Smart Square.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's of Nursing degree.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • A specialty or leadership certification, such as CCRN, CEN, NE-BC, or another equivalent certification.
