Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience as a research engineer who takes extreme ownership of their product.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage numerous hardware workflows to meet required delivery dates.
  • A bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a similar field.
  • At least 4 years of experience designing, building, and testing rocket engine turbopumps or related turbomachinery.
  • Understanding of hydrodynamic and aerodynamic design and the fundamentals of turbomachinery.
  • Extensive experience using computer-aided design tools and configuration management; Siemens NX and Teamcenter are preferred.
  • Experience with mechanical design involving machined parts, additive parts, weldments, fasteners, seals, and rotating assemblies.
  • Experience with rocket engine turbomachinery axial and radial tolerance stackups and material selection.
  • Experience designing, building, and testing inducers, impellers, volutes, turbines, nozzles, shafts, bearings, and seals.
  • Experience with secondary-flow and axial-thrust-balance modeling.
  • Proficiency in heat transfer, compressible and incompressible flow, and cryogenics.
  • Ability to relocate to Seattle, Washington.
  • U.S. citizenship, lawful permanent residency, protected-individual status, or eligibility to obtain required U.S. Department of State authorizations is required for access to ITAR-controlled technology.
  • Ability to prove identity and authorization to work in the United States and complete employment eligibility verification.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and test turbopumps for liquid rocket engines.
  • Own turbomachinery computer-aided design, drawings, and manufacturing plans.
  • Perform hydrodynamic and aerodynamic sizing and flowpath design and analysis for inducers, impellers, diffusers, nozzles, turbines, and other turbomachinery.
  • Perform hydrostatic bearing sizing, performance trending, and coatings development for turbopump bearings.
  • Evaluate axial-thrust balance during transient and steady-state operating points.
  • Perform tolerance stackups, own build books, and ensure as-built pumps meet design intent.
  • Own test-verification activities to ensure completed tests meet requirements.
  • Support turbopump testing, data review, inspections, and go/no-go decisions.
  • Own performance trending for inducers, impellers, turbines, axial and radial bearing capacities, and cavitation.
  • Own design-improvement plans for turbopump components, including manufacturing improvements to reduce cost and lead time.
  • Use or develop high-speed data tools to review turbopump vibration and rotordynamics performance.
  • Resolve hardware-build nonconformances through resolution.
  • Conduct fault-tree investigations and root-cause analysis.

Stoke Space has appointed Kevin Weil to its board of directors. Weil brings over 20 years of technology leadership experience from roles at OpenAI, Planet Labs, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Most recently, he served as vice president of science at OpenAI, focusing on applying AI to scientific discovery. Stoke Space is developing Nova, a fully reusable medium-lift launch vehicle. The company aims to provide low-cost, on-demand space transport with aircraft-like frequency. Weil was part of management teams that took Twitter and Planet public and helped scale Instagram and ChatGPT into global platforms. Stoke Space raises $860M in extended Series D to accelerate Nova rocket development

Stoke Space Technologies has extended its Series D funding round to $860 million, up from the $510 million initially announced in October 2025. The rocket company is developing fully and rapidly reusable medium-lift launch vehicles. The original funding was earmarked for completing Launch Complex 14 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station and expanding production capacity for its Nova launch vehicle. The additional capital will accelerate future elements of the company's product roadmap. Founded by CEO Andy Lapsa, Stoke has now raised $1.34 billion in total funding. The company is backed by the US Space Force, Defence Innovation Unit, NASA and the National Science Foundation, amongst other government and private partners. Terms of the funding extension were not disclosed.
