Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Must read, write, and speak fluent English.
  • Must have one year of food service and/or patient care experience that included direct customer service experience and demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Must hold an Oregon Food Handlers Card.
  • Must be able to continuously move about the work area and stand for eight hours per day.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds unassisted, lift or push overhead up to 50 pounds, and push or pull carts up to 25 pounds.
  • Must have a clear and audible speaking voice, correctable vision sufficient to read size 12 type, and the ability to hear normal speech.
  • Must comply with applicable patient confidentiality, hospital, departmental, and regulatory policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care related to meal service by presenting menus, taking meal orders with a portable electronic device, confirming orders against prescribed diets, checking medical records for CBG orders or medications timed with food intake, assembling meals at CHH2, delivering meals, and clearing over-bed tables.
  • Check tray accuracy during delivery and identify items left on trays, such as glasses, dentures, or paperwork.
  • Deliver ice and water as requested by patients or registered nurses.
  • Reheat or store food from patient meal trays according to food-safety protocols when requested.
  • Remove soiled meal trays from patient rooms and document intake in the medical record.
  • Order products and maintain nourishment-room inventory using first-in, first-out procedures.
  • Use two patient identifiers and hand sanitizer between patient contacts, recognize and respond to emergent situations, and follow established protocols.
  • Document patient intakes and calorie-count data in Epic, including converting food weights and measures for calorie-count data.
  • Coordinate care and services with team members, alert dietitians and dietetic technicians to patient needs, arrange snacks as appropriate, and notify nursing and other professional staff when needs exceed the role’s scope of practice.
  • Reinforce nutritional teaching and counseling that supports or restores health.
  • Maintain job-related professional development, knowledge of technological advances, appropriate use of new equipment, and application of hospital systems.
  • Incorporate quality-improvement practices and OHSU’s mission principles into job performance.
  • Support patient- and family-centered care across the continuum through service coordination.
  • Provide service-excellence care, including immediate service recovery, responding to patients’ expressed and unspoken needs, and completing patient surveys as needed.
  • Carry out responsibilities ethically, effectively, and professionally; report potential compliance problems; participate in training; and comply with OHSU policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and Code of Conduct.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of hospitality experience in a fast-paced hospital food-service environment.
  • Experience communicating with patients, nursing staff, dietitians, dietetic technicians, and diet aides.
  • Completion of a vocational training program in a healthcare support area, such as Certified Nursing Assistant training.
  • Acute Care Certification as a CNA2.
  • ServSafe certification.
