About the job

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of product design experience, ideally owning features end to end in a B2B or SaaS product.
  • Strong product opinions and ability to consider what to build and why, defend ideas, and revise them.
  • A portfolio demonstrating problem framing, including at least one case study that begins with a fuzzy problem and no specification.
  • Experience designing data-heavy products such as dashboards, analytics, or reporting tools.
  • Experience working within or contributing to a design system, with understanding of how components and patterns scale.
  • Curiosity about AI products, ideally with hands-on exploration.
  • Strong written communication in English.
  • Fluency in Figma and use of AI tools in everyday workflow.
Responsibilities
  • Shape Spate's core dashboard product and help decide what to build and why, remaining involved from initial discussions through launch.
  • Choose the appropriate design deliverable for each problem, such as a written proposal, user flow, prototype, or Figma specification, in collaboration with the frontend lead.
  • Identify user pain points through customer calls, interviews, feedback, and usage data; frame problems, explore options, and propose a direction.
  • Define appropriate interaction formats for AI features, including chat, reports, and inline summaries; determine how to show insight sources and handle loading, uncertainty, and incorrect answers.
  • Shape the voice and structure of AI-generated insights.
  • Own the design system's principles and Figma library, and partner with frontend engineers to align it with the React component library as a single source of truth.
  • Establish data visualization standards and patterns for AI features within the design system.
  • Co-own product metrics, user feedback tracking, and quality evaluation for LLM features with the frontend lead; define measurable rubrics for good AI answers.
  • Learn the product and users, review customer calls, feedback, and usage data, audit the Figma library against React components, and ship one improvement in the first 30 days.
  • Publish a map of users' top pain points and goals, and take a feature from pain point to agreed proposal with prototypes by day 60.
  • Document and put the design system's first principles into use, and begin co-owning metrics, feedback tracking, and LLM evaluations by day 90.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience as the first or only designer on a team.
  • Experience building or substantially evolving a design system adopted by engineers.
  • Experience designing AI features or writing evaluation rubrics for LLM output.
  • Depth in data visualization.
  • Familiarity with consumer goods, beauty, food, marketing, or insights tools.
  • Ability to build quick functional prototypes with AI tools to test ideas against real outputs.
