About the company

Google Fiber provides high-speed fiber-optic broadband for homes and small businesses. It uses fiber-to-the-home connections to offer symmetric upload and download speeds across several tiers, with no data caps, no equipment fees, and no annual contracts. It differentiates itself by its fast, equal-speed internet and by building or leveraging fiber networks rather than relying on traditional cable infrastructure, while shifting TV offerings to streaming partners. Its goal is to expand ultra-fast internet access and boost competition in the broadband market, supported by a planned merger with Astound Broadband to fund further expansion while Alphabet retains a minority stake.

Gemtek, Qualcomm and gFiber unveil Wi-Fi 8 gateway with on-device AI, launching 2027

Gemtek Technology Co., Ltd. is showing an AI-native Wi-Fi 8 broadband gateway at Network X 2026, built with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. and gFiber, Inc. The device brings Edge AI and next-generation connectivity into the home. The gateway runs on the Qualcomm Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite Platform and uses software from Genix Networks, a Gemtek subsidiary. It offers Wi-Fi 8 Quad-Band connectivity and local AI computing. gFiber is the launch service provider and the first operator to deploy it. Subscribers can manage their home network by voice, asking about device activity, performance, and security. Local processing of supported requests can protect privacy, speed up responses, and reduce reliance on the cloud. Commercial deployment is targeted for 2027. "This collaboration combines Qualcomm's Wi-Fi 8 platform and gFiber's subscriber experience with Gemtek's product engineering and Genix software," said James Lee, chief executive officer of Gemtek.

The system provides residents with instant connectivity upon move-in through Quext's app, eliminating installation delays. Residents receive a private network that extends throughout their units and common areas, enabling control of smart home devices anywhere on the property. The solution integrates with Irvine Company's Tour Guide app, allowing prospective residents secure property access during self-guided tours. According to the National Multifamily Housing Council, nearly 75% of apartment tenants consider pre-installed Wi-Fi an important amenity. GFiber currently operates in 19 states across America.
