JD.com is a large Chinese e-commerce company that sells products directly to consumers and hosts a marketplace where third-party sellers list items. The company relies on its own extensive logistics network to store, pick, pack, and ship orders quickly, offering options such as same-day and next-day delivery. Its platform combines an online store, a marketplace, and technology-enabled services to support its retail and logistics operations. Unlike many competitors, JD.com owns much of its logistics infrastructure and emphasizes supply chain technology to control quality, speed, and efficiency across its products and services, including electronics, healthcare, and property development ventures. The goal is to be a leading, integrated e-commerce and technology platform in China, continually expanding its logistics capabilities, technology solutions, and services for both consumers and third-party sellers.

Joybuy signals move into fresh produce in UK recruitment blitz.

Joybuy signals move into fresh produce in UK recruitment blitz. Joybuy - the e-commerce site and app owned by China's biggest retailer by revenue, JD.com - looks set to expand into fresh food in the UK, latest job listings suggest. The online retailer - which launched in Europe in March - offers an extensive range of ambient and frozen foods, household, baby, beverages, personal care, beauty, health, pet, and nicotine products from both major brands and Morrisons own label, as well as consumer electronics, appliances, homeware, clothing and DIY goods. Fresh produce has remained notably absent from its category coverage. However, a job listing strongly suggests that could be about to change. Joybuy is seeking a fresh category operations manager, responsible for "overseeing the end-to-end operations of the fresh produce supply chain, ensuring products are sourced, handled, and delivered efficiently while maintaining quality, food safety, and service standards". Explore related questions. A description of the UK-based role states the successful candidate will "co-ordinate with growers, packers, logistics providers, retailers, and internal teams to optimise product availability, minimise waste, and achieve commercial objectives". They will work with third parties to "plan inventory, replenishment, and demand fulfilment to maximise product availability while minimising shrinkage and waste", the listing adds. It is one of around 158 open roles based in the UK, and among close to 1,000 vacancies outside China across both Joybuy and JD.com's wider operations. "As Joybuy and JoyExpress continue to grow and develop, we are hiring for new roles to join us across Europe - we encourage people to apply directly through either our website, or LinkedIn," a JD.com spokesperson told The Grocer. "We're building comprehensive capabilities covering retail, warehousing, fulfilment and retail services across Europe, Asia and beyond, providing our customers with a fast, efficient, high-quality and reliable experience," they added. In July, JD.com bought a grade-A office building in west London called Systems, from UAE-based BlueFive Capital, to use as its UK headquarters. The 127,000 sq ft building in Brook Green was constructed in the 1930s and has recently been redeveloped. Other roles the company is seeking to fill include head of brand marketing, the job involving "defining what Joybuy stands for, how that translates per market, and where the brand can credibly win against both marketplace incumbents and cross-border competitors"; head of compliance; head of legal; and several engineering roles specialising in AI, machine learning, search and recommendations. Vacancies also include a director role for the business's international marketplace and marketplace partner ecosystem manager, which come after The Grocer revealed that Joybuy was readying to introduce third-party sellers to its online stores across Europe. The company is also seeking a social media & influencers manager, to "develop Joybuy UK's social media presence, lead influencer partnerships and execute offline activations that drive customer engagement, brand awareness and commercial performance". Applicants are told that the company is "expanding its international footprint through a digitally intelligent, cross-border supply chain and world-class logistics network, supported by platforms such as Joybuy, which brings trusted products to customers worldwide". Joybuy has been collating data on what its customer purchase at supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's Waitrose, Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl and Boots as part of a promotion that gives its customers loyalty points and discounts in return for scanning their supermarket receipts. JD com and partners to invest $2.1B in Hong Kong's Northern Metropolis.

JD com and partners to invest $2.1B in Hong Kong's Northern Metropolis. A major partnership has been formed as JD.com collaborates with five other companies to acquire land in Hong Kong's Northern Metropolis through a joint venture. The six entities plan to invest approximately HKD 16.8 billion (around USD 2.1 billion) in a development project that aims to deliver over 3,000 housing units and create more than 6,000 jobs. The Hong Kong government's Development Bureau announced on August 24 that the first pilot project for "area development" in the Northern Metropolis has completed its evaluation phase. The project was awarded to HSK New Development after submitting the winning bid exceeding HKD 1 billion (about USD 127.5 million). The joint venture, HSK New Development, was formed by JD.com, China Overseas Land & Investment, China Merchants Land, China Resources Land Overseas, China Tourism Group, and Sino Land. This collaboration brings together key players from residential, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. China Tourism Group has committed approximately HKD 2.5 billion to the project, while each of the other companies is investing around HKD 2.9 billion. Situated in the Hung Shui Kiu / Ha Tsuen New Development Area, the project encompasses four land parcels - three designated for residential and commercial use, and one for an enterprise and technology park. The development will cover about 36,000 square meters with a gross floor area of roughly 220,000 sqm, on a 50-year lease. The enterprise and technology park is projected to become a world-class smart logistics hub, with a subsidiary of JD.com expected to be the primary tenant, according to China Merchants Land. JD Logistics is planning to establish localized warehouses and a regional operations center in Yuen Long, a town in Hong Kong's northwestern New Territories, utilizing the Northern Metropolis development over the coming years. The facilities will support overseas warehousing, distribution, direct mail imports, same-city pick-up and delivery, unmanned operations, and more, potentially generating over 2,500 jobs. Covering roughly one-third of Hong Kong's land area, the Northern Metropolis is set to become a key urban development center over the next two decades. The city is actively promoting growth in the region, attracting suitable industries to support its expansion ambitions. More posts.
