Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current New York State Nurse's Aide Certificate is required.
  • Weekend and holiday commitment is required.
  • Ability to work long shifts, including nights and weekends, while maintaining a high level of care.
  • Ability to lift, transfer, and reposition patients safely, often with the aid of equipment such as lifts or slings.
  • Ability to handle and operate medical equipment and perform tasks such as taking vital signs or administering medications.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for most of the workday.
  • Ability to move or lift equipment and patients weighing a minimum of 35–40 pounds.
  • Fine motor coordination to manipulate biomedical equipment such as thermometers and scissors.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain the unit and patients’ rooms in compliance with regulatory agency codes and standards; obtain, record, and report vital signs to the registered nurse.
  • Change patients to and from adaptive equipment as recommended or directed by therapists or the registered nurse, and maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
  • Assist with or perform predetermined treatment procedures and feed or assist patients with feeding during meals and snacks.
  • Assist patients with diapering, toileting, and showers as necessary; reposition assigned patients to promote skin integrity and muscle tone and maintain body alignment; maintain hand hygiene and adhere to patient-specific precautions.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and assist the nurse during emergency situations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior relevant job experience in a pediatric setting is preferred.
  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, pre-physician assistant or physician assistant, pre-medical, or pre-physical therapy program is preferred.
  • Candidates with New York State patient care technician and/or medical assistant licenses, or commensurate experience, will also be considered.
