Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Must possess a current, valid Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of practice or a temporary Licensed Practical Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch frequently.
  • Must possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.
  • Must have adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision.
  • Must have fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and the ability to grasp and handle objects.
  • Must be able to use proper body mechanics to assist patients with ambulating and transferring in and out of bed, a chair, or a wheelchair.
  • May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Must use standard precautions due to the threat of exposure to blood and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or by telephone.
Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing care within the scope of practice in an assigned area under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designated supervisor.
  • Use the medication administration system to provide patients with their medication under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Provide patients with information about their medication under the direction of the Registered Nurse.
  • Communicate updates to the Registered Nurse and other providers regarding perceived reactions or changes in a patient's condition.
  • Accurately record medications provided to patients and document vital signs, procedures completed, and equipment utilized.
  • Monitor patients for safety in the department.
  • Attend department meetings and educational sessions.
  • Assist in training new department staff.
  • Participate in activities that improve professional quality indicators and patient outcomes, including activities through professional organizations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization certification is preferred.
  • Completion of Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred.
