Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience in a controls engineering, controls design, or controls/automation-focused role.
  • A bachelor's degree in a related engineering field is strongly preferred.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10%–20%.
  • Write and edit basic PLC ladder routines, follow tag and architecture conventions, and read and make small structured-text edits under review.
  • Build basic HMI screens, alarms, diagnostics, and data displays, following UX and tag standards and review feedback.
  • Teach robot points, set tools and frames, jog safely, and adjust simple paths; seek guidance for complex logic and coordinated motion.
  • Configure VFD parameters and assist with basic servo-axis setup, homing, and simple tuning under supervision.
  • Understand lockout/tagout and safety I/O fundamentals, and perform functional checks and documentation under guidance to RIA/ANSI requirements.
  • Perform device and IP configuration and basic fieldbus diagnostics, such as Ethernet/IP, using checklists.
  • Run provided cell simulations and adjust simple parameters; seek review for collision and cycle-time conclusions.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system designs for automated work cells.
  • Implement tasks in PLC, HMI, and robot programs within established architecture and standards, including I/O mapping, device setup, alarms and diagnostics, and basic data handling.
  • Interpret customer specifications and communicate to produce machinery that meets customer and company specifications.
  • Perform first-pass troubleshooting using schematics and code, document findings, and escalate with clear context.
  • Follow code and electrical standards and keep backups, change logs, I/O and tag maps, and manuals current for assigned scope.
  • Assist with offline and online debugging, device bring-up, FAT/SAT support, and on-site startup under supervision; follow test procedures and record results.
  • Manage customer relationships and requests professionally.
  • Communicate with vendors to specify and source major purchased components.
  • Work with Mechanical, Electrical, Build, and Project Management teams to resolve issues and protect project milestones.
  • Actively embody and uphold the company's ten operating principles.
