Requirements
  • Be at least 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a high school diploma or equivalent that meets validation requirements under the Texas Administrative Code.
  • Possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license.
  • Secure and maintain certification as a Juvenile Supervision Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department.
  • Secure and maintain a favorable background investigation.
  • Clear a pre-employment physical, pre-employment drug test, psychological assessment, and a state-approved examination to obtain required certification.
  • Have a valid driver's license and a motor vehicle or alternate available means of transportation.
  • Secure and maintain certification in First Aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and an authorized physical restraint technique within sixty days of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model to youth and assist them in developing social and life skills while providing guidance and support through daily interaction; promote positive outcomes for youth by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on leadership strengths.
  • Collaborate as part of a team to oversee and supervise youth in a secure residential program.
  • Implement the facility's behavior management plan, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports, with fidelity.
  • Monitor and maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment free of contraband through supervision rounds, head counts, indoor and outdoor security checks, and searches of youth and visitors.
  • Observe the conduct and behavior of youth and take appropriate action in accordance with departmental policies to ensure the safety of staff and youth.
  • Provide crisis and behavior management in accordance with departmental policies to youth as needed to prevent or de-escalate crisis situations.
  • Provide physical intervention when necessary to prevent harm to a person or property.
  • Provide one-to-one observations where appropriate to ensure the safety of youth, including moderate- and high-risk suicide, mental health, and medical watches.
  • Interact with and facilitate discussions with families and visitors to encourage family engagement and identify positive supports for youth while in custody.
  • Complete required documentation, including behavior notations, incident reports, and electronic observation checks.
  • Transport youth inside and outside of the facility, including to classrooms, the cafeteria, medical appointments, and court hearings.
  • Perform related duties as required.
