Requirements
  • Knowledge of theology, spiritual development, and pastoral counseling at a level normally acquired through completion of a Master’s of Divinity degree or equivalent training at an accredited theological seminary or school.
  • Per Diem employees must have completed a minimum of one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education training.
  • Endorsement as a chaplain by the applicant’s denomination or faith group is required, or must be obtainable within one year of hire.
  • Approximately two years of ministry experience, preferably in chaplaincy.
  • Applicants must successfully complete a criminal background check and education verification.
  • Applicants must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen.
Responsibilities
  • Provide spiritual comfort through individual and group prayer and scripture reading, devotional readings and thoughts, music, communion, and other services meeting individual spiritual needs.
  • Respect cultural and ethnic diversity while maintaining Pine Rest’s Christian foundational values and Christian identity.
  • Periodically conduct Sunday worship services.
  • Assist patients and residents with spiritual needs by performing spiritual assessments and providing spiritual care based on those assessments.
  • Conduct memorial and funeral services for patients or residents who pass away, including prayer, music, messages of hope, and opportunities for grieving staff and residents to participate.
  • Document visits to provide staff with insight into patients’ or residents’ spiritual needs for continuity of care.
  • Document summaries of individual and group ministry with patients in the electronic charting software according to Pastoral Services Department standards.
