More than 50 years of service: Earl Jones' legacy extends across GE Appliances and Louisville. Sep 29th 2026 GE Appliances Communications Earl Jones Receives 2026 Olmsted Stewardship Award After more than 50 years with GE and GE Appliances, Deputy General Counsel Earl Jones is preparing to retire with another part of his legacy receiving national recognition. On Sept. 25, the Olmsted Network honored Earl with its 2026 Olmsted Stewardship Award, recognizing nearly three decades of leadership and service to the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy. Earl has served as a Conservancy trustee since 1997, including as board chair from 2016 to 2018, and currently serves as board secretary. The award recognizes sustained stewardship of landscapes associated with Frederick Law Olmsted and the Olmsted firm. Earl was honored during the Olmsted Network's annual conference in Portland, Oregon, alongside park advocates and leaders from across the country. Nearly three decades protecting Louisville's parks. Earl joined the Louisville Olmsted Parks Conservancy board in 1997 and has remained deeply involved ever since. Over nearly three decades, he has helped guide the organization through major capital investments, leadership transitions and continuing efforts to preserve and improve Louisville's historic Olmsted park system. That system includes 17 parks and six parkways designed as an interconnected network linking parks and neighborhoods across Louisville. For Earl, that work has always been about more than preserving beautiful spaces. It is also about who gets to enjoy them. When the Conservancy honored him with its Frederick Law Olmsted Award in 2019, Earl pointed to Olmsted's belief that access to beautiful public parks should not depend on income and described helping advance that vision as one of the great pleasures of his life. More than 50 years with GE and GE Appliances. For more than half a century, Earl has worked across GE and what is now GE Appliances, a Haier company, building a career spanning law, public policy and government relations. As deputy general counsel and longtime head of government relations, Earl has helped the company navigate regulatory and legislative issues and build relationships with policymakers at the local, state and federal levels. He has also helped secure significant public incentives in partnership with state and local governments across GE Appliances plant communities, supporting investments in U.S. manufacturing and the communities where the company operates. A lasting commitment to Louisville. Earl's civic involvement extends beyond the Conservancy. He also served as a director of the Louisville Regional Airport Authority and has long been active in Louisville's cycling community, including many years as president of the Louisville Bicycle Club. His connection to Louisville's parks, however, has been particularly enduring. When the Conservancy presented Earl with its first Frederick Law Olmsted Award in 2019, then-President and CEO Layla George credited his leadership with helping guide the organization through major investments and important transitions. From GE Appliances to Louisville's Olmsted parks, Earl's career has been defined by something increasingly rare: a commitment measured not in years, but in decades.

His leadership has also helped drive a significant expansion of GE Appliances' U.S. manufacturing operations. Since 2016, the company has committed more than $6.5 billion to its U.S. operations, including a five-year, $3 billion investment plan announced in 2025 to expand manufacturing, modernize plants and bring more production to the United States. "The challenges facing the world, organizations, and individuals are enormous," said Des Dearlove, co-founder of Thinkers50. GE Appliances named one of Fast Company's Best Workplaces for Innovators. September 9, 2026 Louisville-based GE Appliances also earned recognition in the Skilled Laborers category for fostering innovation among manufacturing and skilled-trades employees. LOUISVILLE, Ky. - GE Appliances has been named one of Fast Company's 2026 100 Best Workplaces for Innovators, adding another national recognition for the Louisville-based appliance manufacturer and its workforce. GE Appliances, a Haier company, also was named a winner in the publication's Skilled Laborers category, which recognizes companies that encourage skilled tradespeople to use their technical expertise to develop new products, improve processes and solve workplace challenges. Fast Company's annual Best Workplaces for Innovators program recognizes organizations that create cultures where employees are encouraged to develop ideas and turn them into products, processes and other business improvements. "Innovation isn't something that's handed down from the top," said Kevin Nolan, president and CEO of GE Appliances. "It happens every day when people see a better way and have the confidence and support to do something about it. That's the kind of culture we've worked hard to build, and we're honored to see it recognized." The recognition is particularly significant in Kentucky, where GE Appliances maintains its headquarters and a major manufacturing presence in Louisville. The company employs more than 1,600 engineers working in hardware, software and digital technologies at its Louisville headquarters. Employees across engineering, manufacturing, product development, software and operations are encouraged to identify problems, experiment with ideas and develop new approaches, according to the company. More than 1,000 GE Appliances engineers hold at least one approved patent. Several employees hold more than 50 patents, while the company's most prolific inventor has been credited with 119. One of the company's most visible Louisville-based innovation initiatives is FirstBuild, a microfactory and co-creation community where engineers and employees work with designers, makers and members of the public to develop, prototype and test new products. The model allows concepts to be evaluated and refined on a smaller scale before potentially moving into broader production. GE Appliances said that innovation strategy also is being applied to artificial intelligence. The company launched an AI Lab in 2025 to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence throughout its operations. Today, 100% of GE Appliances' nonproduction workforce has access to at least one AI environment, giving employees across different business functions opportunities to experiment with the technology and apply it to business challenges. The company also continues to expand connected-appliance technology. Recent developments include Kitchen Assistant and Cooking Assistant, powered by the company's SmartHQ platform and designed to assist consumers with meal planning, preparation and cooking. The Fast Company recognition comes as GE Appliances continues a significant expansion of its U.S. manufacturing operations. The company has committed billions of dollars to its domestic operations, investing in new manufacturing technology, equipment and production capabilities. Those investments also are intended to give manufacturing employees additional tools to improve processes and develop solutions on the factory floor. Louisville remains central to that strategy. GE Appliances operates Appliance Park, its sprawling manufacturing complex and corporate headquarters in Louisville, making the company one of Kentucky's most prominent manufacturers and a major component of the state's advanced manufacturing sector. The Skilled Laborers recognition also highlights a part of corporate innovation that can sometimes receive less attention: ideas originating on the manufacturing floor rather than solely in engineering labs or corporate offices. GE Appliances said its approach is based on giving employees closest to a particular job or production process the ability to identify problems and develop better ways of doing the work. The company said the Fast Company recognition reflects that broader philosophy that innovation can originate at any level of an organization and that employees should have opportunities to turn those ideas into practical improvements. By MMH Staff · September 9, 2026 The Reusable Packaging Association (RPA) announced the recipients of its 2026 Excellence in Reusable Packaging Awards. This year's winners are Tesla with Vantage Plastics in the Reusable System category; CDF Corp. in partnership with Micro Matic in the Design Innovation category; Green Spider Pallet Wraps in the Design Innovation category; and Wave Reaction with GE Appliances in the Product Technology category. Tesla, with Vantage Plastics as its packaging supplier, won the Reusable System award for its global returnable packaging program supporting the distribution of Powerwall 3 - a compact home battery that stores energy generated by a solar inverter or from the grid. The program uses reusable thermoformed clamshells within a return network spanning multiple global markets, helping reduce packaging costs while improving pack-out, transportation, and warehouse efficiency. More than 280,000 clamshells have been returned and reused at Tesla's Gigafactory Nevada production line. The Reusable System category recognizes primary end-user companies and their suppliers that have developed and implemented measurable reusable packaging solutions within a business-to-business supply chain. CDF Corp. and Micro Matic received a Design Innovation award for its Closed Flexible Liner Solution for composite intermediate bulk containers (IBCs). The solution allows the rigid IBC bottle and cage to remain in circulation repeatedly while a flexible liner serves as the product-contact component. The design can achieve up to 99% product evacuation while reducing plastic waste, water-intensive reconditioning, and the potential for leaks and spills. Green Spider Pallet Wraps also received a Design Innovation award for its reusable pallet wrap system, designed as an alternative to single-use stretch film. Available in four configurations for different load profiles and operating environments, the wraps are rated for 500 reuse cycles and supported by a dedicated wash system designed to extend their useful life in commercial applications. The Design Innovation category celebrates the commercial use of a cutting-edge product design that delivers a business application benefit. Wave Reaction and GE Appliances won the Product Technology award category for their work to establish a technology-enabled Container Management Center and returnable packaging management program. The Wave RCM platform combines asset tracking, automated container allocation, and warehouse management capabilities across a network that now supports more than 50 suppliers, more than 50 returnable container SKUs, and more than 250,000 reusable assets. The Product Technology category recognizes the deployment of smart and automated systems with reusable transport packaging. Now in its 15th year, RPA's Excellence Awards program recognizes innovation and achievement across the reusable transport packaging industry. An independent panel of judges evaluates submissions based on the reuse opportunity addressed, demonstrated and measurable business or economic improvements, and quantifiable environmental impacts. The 2026 Excellence in Reusable Packaging Award winners will be recognized on Tuesday, October 20, at 4:00 p.m. CST during PACK EXPO International at McCormick Place in Chicago. The presentations will bring two days of education and industry discussion to a close. Latest in material handling.
