  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must also have at least 3 years of relevant industry experience; candidates with a Master's degree must also have at least 1 year of relevant industry experience.
  • Relevant industry experience in product or technology transfer, in vitro diagnostic or research-use-only diagnostic assay manufacturing, or manufacturing sciences in another regulated industry.
  • Experience with product or technology transfer within the diagnostics industry under current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements to support product launches.
  • Experience with in vitro diagnostic or research-use-only diagnostic assay kit manufacturing.
  • Experience with process validation, statistical analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Familiarity with design controls during the product development process.
  • Familiarity with Good Documentation Practices, current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements, and Food and Drug Administration and/or International Organization for Standardization quality standards for medical device and in vitro diagnostic products.
  • High attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in documentation and batch record execution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address and resolve technical issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for creating manufacturing records and data analysis templates.
Responsibilities
  • Lead new product introduction design transfer activities and ensure all required deliverables are completed in alignment with Product Development Process requirements.
  • Develop specifications and acceptance criteria for raw materials or in-process materials to ensure product quality.
  • Translate assay designs into manufacturing work instructions and in-process test instructions that can be understood by manufacturing operators.
  • Build assay reagents at scale during feasibility and design verification phases while ensuring batch records are completed in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
  • Plan and execute process verification experiments to demonstrate the robustness and reproducibility of assays being transferred.
  • Ensure material transactions are completed in a timely manner to maintain accurate inventory control.
  • Drive lean manufacturing, process improvement, and supply chain initiatives to improve cost of goods, efficiency, yield, and quality.
  • Lead investigations during design transfer and provide resolutions for product and process issues.
  • Develop electronic records for manufacturing work instructions and create data analysis templates to improve efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Maintain detailed records of manufactured materials during the transfer process and complete batch records following current Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
  • Review executed batch records and work with Quality Assurance to address quality issues before release, including deviations, nonconformance material review, corrective and preventive actions, and change control.
  • Ensure all process documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with regulatory standards such as Food and Drug Administration and International Organization for Standardization standards.
  • Support regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections as required.

Presented annually by R&D World, the awards recognize 100 of the year's most technologically significant new products and advancements from organizations around the world. For more than six decades, the R&D 100 Awards have recognized excellence in research and development across industry, academia, and government. The 2026 winners were selected from 149 finalists by a judging panel comprising more than 50 industry professionals from around the world. Brain-derived pTau 217 represents a central nervous system-specific subset of circulating pTau 217 and is present at substantially lower concentrations than total plasma pTau 217, making reliable measurement, particularly in healthy individuals and early-stage populations, a significant analytical challenge. The SPEAR UltraDetect(TM) BD-pTau 217 Assay addresses this challenge with a functional lower limit of quantification of 25 fg/mL while requiring just 1 μL of diluted plasma. Across the evaluated healthy-control and Alzheimer's disease plasma samples, the assay achieved 100% quantifiability. In PET-confirmed research cohorts, BD-pTau 217 measurements demonstrated strong differentiation between amyloid-negative and amyloid-positive groups, illustrating how greater analytical sensitivity can translate into more informative biological insight. The new SPEAR UltraDetect immunoassays target brain-derived phosphorylated tau 217 (BD-pTau 217), α-synuclein (α-syn), and phospho-Ser129-α-synuclein (pS129-α-syn) protein biomarkers associated with neurodegenerative proteinopathies.
