Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in accounting or a related subject plus two additional years of education or experience in accounting or a related field is required; candidates actively pursuing a relevant degree within six months of graduation may meet this requirement.
  • Knowledge of cloud-based accounting systems, specifically Sage Intacct.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements from various sources.
  • Knowledge of financial contract administration, internal control systems, asset and inventory management, financial reporting, and financial record keeping.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and complex, time-critical processes, funding requirements, and relationships.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise financial reports and spreadsheets, maintain accurate financial statements, analyze cash flow and financial statements, reconcile general ledger accounts, and use office and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to interpret and apply administrative policies, departmental procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and report complex statistical and financial data.
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet, and accounting software applications.
  • Organizational, problem-solving, quantitative-analysis, decision-making, independent-judgment, and teamwork abilities.
  • Advanced mathematics skills.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Criminal records satisfactory to the VHA are a condition of employment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide system-administrator-level support for Sage Intacct, including the chart of accounts, dimensions, grant contract invoicing, and reporting.
  • Follow the accounting calendar for month-end cutoff and complete transactions for timely contract billing and financial statement preparation.
  • Administer property-management functions for the owner-occupied commercial building, including monthly rent billing and collection, common-area-maintenance agreements, fixed-asset schedules, and property financing.
  • Track donor-restricted fund balances.
  • Assist with the annual Single Audit, including maintaining the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards and anticipating auditor requests and follow-up questions.
  • Assist with annual agency and grant budgets.
  • Collaborate with the finance team and leadership to manage grant finances and funder reporting.
  • Assist with preparing cost-allocation plans and incorporating allocations into daily and monthly accounting processes.
  • Continuously improve and optimize accounts-payable processes using data imports, bank feeds, and optical character recognition capabilities in Sage Intacct and banking platforms.
  • Provide staff training in coding and related processes.
  • Support accounts-payable and accounts-receivable functions as needed.
  • Prepare and submit grant-fund invoices according to grantor requirements and deadlines.
  • Review grant agreements and budgets for invoicing accuracy.
  • Maintain detailed records of grant expenditures and revenue, track variances, and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Assist with financial reports for grant funding, including budget-versus-actual analysis and forecasting.
  • Participate in audits and grant-compliance reviews and provide requested documentation and support.
  • Communicate with grantors and sub-grantees regarding grant agreements.
  • Ensure contracts and agreements comply with regulatory and project-specific requirements, identify potential risks, and help resolve related issues.
  • Record investment transactions, including allocations to donor-restricted accounts under donor agreements.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly investment reports.
  • Record payments and deposits promptly.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in nonprofit, governmental, property-management, affordable-housing, or accounting environments is preferred.
