About the job

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of experience in site reliability engineering, platform engineering, or production systems engineering, including demonstrated program-level ownership and measured adoption outcomes.
  • End-to-end ownership of at least one major site reliability engineering program at organizational scale, such as an observability platform, production readiness framework, incident management operating model, or chaos engineering program.
  • Production or near-production design and ownership experience integrating large language models into operational use cases such as alert summarization, runbook generation, or incident triage acceleration.
  • Demonstrated experience designing progressive rollout strategies, blast-radius budgeting, and configuration drift detection for large unattended node deployments; cloud-only reliability experience is insufficient.
  • Demonstrated program-scale organizational change management that built cross-organizational adoption of new engineering standards in a large organization with established practices.
  • Ability to quantify site reliability engineering program return on investment in dollars, including incident cost reduction, toil hours eliminated, and recovered engineer productivity, and present business cases to stakeholders.
  • Technical Incident Commander certification or equivalent, with demonstrated leadership of P0/P1 incidents involving cross-organizational executive stakeholder coordination.
  • Deep observability platform expertise in at least two of Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, or Datadog.
  • Production-scale Apache Kafka streaming data platform experience.
  • Experience with analytical databases for observability workloads or equivalent columnar/time-series stores.
  • Policy-as-code and continuous integration/continuous delivery gate automation experience using OPA/Conftest, Checkov, or custom gate API design in enterprise pipelines.
  • Advanced Kubernetes expertise, including multi-cluster operations, edge (k3s) deployments, network policies, and workload failure-mode analysis.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Responsibilities
  • Architect the observability platform strategy end to end, covering hot-tier event streaming, warm-tier analytical querying, and cold-tier long-term storage, including schema design, data contracts, and retention policy.
  • Define the organization-wide composite reliability signal framework, including how individual service-level indicators aggregate into domain health scores and fleet-wide reliability indicators mapped to business outcomes.
  • Drive service-level indicator and service-level objective standardization across engineering domains; own Critical User Journey coverage, documented gap analysis, business-impact severity mapping, and a roadmap to close every gap.
  • Design and own an artificial-intelligence-enabled detection pipeline, including production time-series anomaly detection, large-language-model alert summarization and incident-triage assistance, and a feedback loop that improves model accuracy using incident outcome data.
  • Design certificate and dependency lifecycle monitoring using automated discovery, Vault, cert-manager, or public-key infrastructure management API integrations; define alert thresholds, automated ticket creation, a site reliability engineering approval gate, and closed-loop renewal validation.
  • Evaluate and adopt observability standards including OpenTelemetry and eBPF-based tooling for unified telemetry collection and low-overhead infrastructure observability.
  • Design fleet-scale observability for thousands of unattended edge nodes with intermittent connectivity, including connectivity-tolerant telemetry collection, local buffering, and fleet-aggregated health signals that distinguish node failures from fleet-wide patterns.
  • Own the Production Readiness Review framework, define its principles, author its checklist, build a YAML-based manifest or equivalent, and implement automated policy enforcement using OPA/Conftest, GitHub Actions gates, or custom continuous integration/continuous delivery APIs.
  • Design and run an organizational chaos engineering and GameDay program by defining steady-state hypotheses, building failure-injection scenarios, facilitating multi-domain exercises, and measuring organizational readiness improvements across cohorts.
  • Lead fleet-scale deployment reliability by designing progressive rollout strategies, including canary cohorts, staged fleet expansion, and geographic blast-radius budgets; own deployment gate criteria and the rollback service-level agreement framework.
  • Design configuration drift detection systems that identify when deployed node configurations diverge from expected state, alert before incidents, and provide automated or semi-automated remediation paths.
  • Lead hardware and infrastructure risk assessments for major platform programs, evaluating compute sizing, memory constraints, and runtime isolation requirements at fleet scale before architectural commitments.
  • Define change-management reliability gates, including change review standards, rollback service-level agreement requirements, deployment freeze windows aligned to peak operating periods, and blast-radius assessment criteria for high-risk changes.
  • Partner with architecture review boards to embed reliability non-functional requirements into major platform program design from the initial design phase.
  • Design and operationalize a tiered incident response model, including severity tiers, service and fleet criticality classifications, and proactive monitoring cohorts for site reliability engineering pre-engagement before customer impact.
  • Serve as a certified Technical Incident Commander and lead P0/P1 incident bridges with cross-organizational coordination spanning Engineering, Infrastructure, Operations, and executive leadership.
  • Own the on-call operating model by designing shift structure and ownership tiers, conducting coverage-gap analysis, defining escalation service-level agreements, and conducting quarterly on-call health reviews of toil concentration, coverage gaps, and alert-quality trends.
  • Design alert-management and suppression governance, including planned-maintenance and deployment suppression policies, alert-routing rules, and criteria for alert promotion or demotion across severity levels.
  • Own the organization's mean time to resolution reduction program, establish the baseline for resolution within service-level agreements, and drive improvement through runbook quality, automation, and escalation-path optimization.
  • Own the postmortem program by designing a queryable causal taxonomy, defining quality scoring, building the facilitation framework, and running the review cadence across incident types and severity levels.
  • Design the three-phase incident learning model: an artificial-intelligence-assisted operational record with real-time transcription and timeline reconstruction; a Technical Incident Commander-authored lightweight root cause analysis within 24 hours; and a jointly facilitated blameless postmortem with Problem Management.
  • Engineer the incident learning feedback loop as a data pipeline connecting incident data, causal classification, production-readiness gate updates, development-team practice changes, and reduced recurrence; own metrics for incident-class recurrence, time from incident to gate update, and repeat-incident reduction by causal origin.
  • Measure learning velocity as the average time from the first occurrence of an incident class to systemic resolution.
  • Partner with Problem Management to align postmortem quality standards, systemic issue escalation criteria, and cross-organizational incident learning governance.
  • Own P1/P2 trend analysis, identify systemic incident drivers across domains, quantify business impact, and develop investment cases for programs that reduce repeat incidents.
  • Own the site reliability engineering developer platform by designing and building an internal tooling library, including onboarding kits for new service development, observability integration templates, developer-facing reliability APIs, and self-service service-level objective health pages.
  • Define the organization's DORA metrics program and organization-wide baselines for deployment frequency, lead time for change, mean time to resolution, and change failure rate; report monthly to engineering leadership and connect results to reliability investment decisions.
  • Drive self-service reliability adoption through developer-owned service-level objective dashboards, automated production-readiness manifests triggered by continuous integration/continuous delivery events, and service health pages showing Critical User Journey health to owning teams.
  • Promote the reliability covenant across engineering domain owners, positioning site reliability engineering as a capability-transfer function and measuring success by engineering-team independence.
  • Quantify and report organization-level operational toil economics, including manual operational touchpoints per month, automation coverage, and the dollar value of capacity recovered through toil elimination, to support investment in automation and developer-platform tooling.
  • Build organizational buy-in before broadly building or adopting programs by explaining their purpose and organizational impact to engineering directors, domain owners, and platform architects.
  • Develop and execute an adoption strategy for each major program, identify a minimum viable version that delivers value to a skeptical team, measure its outcome, and use evidence to expand adoption.
  • Diagnose and address organizational resistance to program adoption by identifying issues such as unclear value, timing, friction, or competing priorities and adapting the approach.
  • Establish and maintain peer relationships with engineering domain owners, understand their delivery pressures and quality concerns, and identify what support they need for reliability investments.
  • Represent site reliability engineering at engineering leadership level by communicating program health, reliability trends, investment priorities, and return on investment to engineering directors and vice presidents in business-outcome terms.

CVS shares drop 15% as pharmacy giant warns of unquantified 340B business headwinds in 2027

CVS Health faces an unquantified headwind from its 340B drug discount programme heading into 2027, management warned during its fiscal Q2 2026 earnings call in August. The company's shares have fallen 15.2% over the past three months, even as management raised its 2026 earnings outlook. The 340B business, which serves eligible healthcare organisations, is experiencing pressure as drugmakers limit programme coverage. Management expects this drag to continue affecting its pharmacy services business in 2027 but declined to quantify the potential impact. CVS's Health Services segment, which likely includes the 340B business, generated $190.4 billion in revenue during fiscal 2025. The company trades at 22.5 times trailing earnings, roughly level with the S&P 500's 22.4 multiple.

CVS Omnicare completes $250M bankruptcy sale after $440M government settlement

CVS Health's Omnicare division has completed its Chapter 11 bankruptcy liquidation after selling its business operations for $250 million. A Texas bankruptcy judge approved the wind-down plan following a $440 million settlement with the Justice Department over improper billing practices. Omnicare, which served nursing homes and long-term care facilities, filed for bankruptcy in September 2025 after facing a $949 million judgement for fraudulently dispensing drugs without valid prescriptions and billing federal healthcare programmes for false claims. The settlement requires CVS to pay $130 million upfront and cover the remaining $310 million if Omnicare fails to do so by March 2028. GenieRx Holdings, a joint partnership between Milrose Capital and Integro Asset Management, purchased Omnicare's operations. The sale is expected to close next month.

US health insurers rebound as medical costs stabilise, analysts predict 16% earnings growth through 2030

The health insurance industry may have recovered from high medical costs, with analysts predicting strong growth through 2030. Morningstar forecasts 16% annual earnings per share growth for major insurers, above the industry's typical low-double-digit target. Health insurers are improving profitability by raising rates to cover increased medical utilisation. UnitedHealth Group reported over $5 billion in second-quarter net income, with its medical care ratio falling to 86.7% from 89.4% year-over-year. The outlook also improved for pharmacy benefit management operations at companies like UnitedHealth, CVS Health, and Cigna. Despite increased regulatory scrutiny, the "big three" PBMs maintain strong competitive positions. Third-quarter earnings reports next month should provide further clarity on the industry's financial health.
