Requirements
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing and troubleshooting.
  • An Associate’s degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls, an Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET-accredited college, or similar military experience and training from Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee service.
  • NETA Certification III or IV or similar certification, or an electrician license, is preferred.
  • Good personal computer skills, including email, internet use, data entry, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Ability to drive daily locally or regionally and maintain availability for periodic overnight travel.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and periodic drug testing, criminal background screening, and a fit-for-duty physical examination.
  • Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 100 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime, including occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
Responsibilities
  • Travel to industrial and commercial customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up, and collect data on low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems ranging from 480 volts to 600 kilovolts.
  • Travel to customer job sites across the state and bordering states.
  • Perform instrument transformer tests.
  • Perform power transformer testing using Doble, transformer turns ratio, and insulation resistance methods.
  • Test cables using Tan Delta, power factor, very-low-frequency, and direct-current hipot methods.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
  • Test low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner.
  • Travel regularly overnight domestically and occasionally internationally.
Desired Qualifications
  • Proficiency in testing both electromechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Experience with PowerDB.
  • OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR, First Aid, bloodborne pathogens, and automated external defibrillator training.
  • A U.S. passport and TWIC card.
