Why Terex (TEX) shares are trading lower today. Kayode omotosho /. July 30, 2026 What happened? Shares of lifting and material handling equipment company Terex (NYSE:TEX) fell 4% in the afternoon session after the company reported second-quarter 2026 results that, despite beating revenue expectations and raising its full-year sales forecast, showed a decline in year-over-year profitability. Terex's revenue of $2.24 billion was up 50.5% year on year and surpassed analyst estimates. The company also boosted its full-year revenue guidance to $8.05 billion. However, investors appeared to focus on signs of weakening profitability. Adjusted earnings per share fell to $1.37 from $1.49 in the same quarter last year, although the result still beat consensus estimates. Furthermore, the company's full-year guidance for EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization), a key measure of profitability, came in slightly below Wall Street's expectations, raising concerns about future profit generation. After the initial drop, the shares shed some of the losses and rose to $62.62, down 3% from the previous close. What is the market telling us. Terex's shares are very volatile and have had 22 moves greater than 5% over the last year. In that context, today's move indicates the market considers this news meaningful but not something that would fundamentally change its perception of the business. The biggest move we wrote about over the last year was 8 months ago when the stock gained 6.9% on the news that positive analyst sentiment and the European launch of one of its brands boosted investor confidence. The stock received support from a consensus "Buy" rating among 10 analysts, who also set an average price target that forecasted a 23.38% increase in the stock's value over the next year. Adding to the good news, MAGNA, a Terex brand that focuses on large-scale crushing and screening equipment, officially marked its European launch with an event at a company facility. The event was held to better inform potential customers about MAGNA's market position and its range of products, signaling an expansion of the company's presence in the European market. Terex is up 13.8% since the beginning of the year, but at $62.62 per share, it is still trading 14.9% below its 52-week high of $73.57 from June 2026. Investors who bought $1,000 worth of Terex's shares 5 years ago would now be looking at an investment worth $1,307. WHILE YOU'RE HERE: The Next Palantir?
