 Position Summary:

The Senior Director, Project Leader at Pioneering Medicines, holds a prominent role in spearheading the development and execution of groundbreaking strategies in metabolic diseases. This position utilizes state-of-the-art scientific advancements to develop transformative therapies that expand the reach of Flagship Pioneering (FSP) platforms to a broader patient base, with a strong emphasis on collaborative efforts with pharmaceutical partners. Reporting to the VP of Program Leadership, the Senior Director is an inspirational leader with rich expertise in drug discovery, and steering cross-functional teams to develop and implement robust scientific and strategic plans from lead discovery through to initial clinical studies.  The Senior Director will play a critical role in FSP’s key innovation pipelines to drive a metabolic disease portfolio that will transform human health.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Primarily oversee all programs and strategy related to our strategic collaboration with a large pharmaceutical partner, ensuring cohesive alignment with project objectives and partnership goals, with a focus on metabolic diseases.
• Lead and manage cross-functional teams to develop and implement integrated strategies for up to 2 key programs, emphasizing the development of treatments for metabolic health from lead optimization through to initial clinical studies.
• Foster an environment of scientific rigor, proactive debate, collaborative teamwork, and accountability, nurturing a culture that balances innovation with urgent and robust R&D timelines.
• Utilize a depth of experience in metabolic diseases to anticipate challenges, identify risks, and manage resources effectively to mitigate potential issues.
• Collaborate closely with project management to develop detailed plans that include realistic timelines, budgetary controls, and resource allocations.
• Consistently communicate strategic decisions and progress to senior management at Pioneering Medicines, FSP and FSP platform companies, maintaining accountability for the overall success of the projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

• MS/PhD/MD in a scientific discipline with 8+ years of experience in drug development, with a strong focus on metabolic diseases.
• At least 3 years of leadership experience in project leadership or a related role within a cross-functional team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated leadership in a prominent role within the biopharmaceutical sector, requiring advanced interpersonal skills and an innovative, strategic approach to problem-solving.
• Capability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects effectively, particularly those involving metabolic diseases.
• Deep understanding of both big pharma and biotech sector cultures to identify opportunities and challenges to navigate complex multi-company collaborations.
• Strong entrepreneurial mindset with a commitment to driving novel therapeutic development in metabolic diseases.
• A flexible, fit-for-purpose, leadership style that deploys team skills to advance project goals.
• Ability to travel as required.
