Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • One year as a licensed Police Officer.
  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement basic certification.
  • Must have a State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
  • Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
  • Applicant must pass an entrance exam to be considered for employment.
  • Applicant must successfully pass a psychological evaluation, physical examination, and background investigation including driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
  • Under certain conditions, such as a break in law enforcement service of more than 180 days, additional testing may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Patrols property under the jurisdiction of Texas A&M University in Galveston County by motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot.
  • Enforces all criminal laws of the State of Texas and violations of Texas A&M at Galveston rules and regulations.
  • Takes reports and performs preliminary police investigations.
  • Reports violations of the rules and regulations of Texas A&M University at Galveston.
  • Provides assistance to the public whenever possible.
  • Prevents crime and suppresses disturbances.
  • Issues citations and testifies in justice of the peace courts, county and district courts, and student judicial hearings.
  • Guards and transports prisoners.
  • Interacts with the public on a day-to-day basis.
  • Responds to emergency calls and takes appropriate action.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
