Requirements
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining scalable front-end applications using React and TypeScript, including component-based architecture, state management, and hooks.
- Demonstrated experience managing application state using MobX or other state management solutions within a TypeScript and React environment.
- Demonstrated experience developing backend services and application programming interfaces using Node.js, including integrating front-end and server-side code.
- Demonstrated experience with Elasticsearch, including search functionality, analytics, querying, indexing, mappings, analyzers, tokenization, bulk indexing, search domain-specific language, aggregations, reindexing, snapshots, index lifecycle management, performance tuning, and large datasets.
- Demonstrated experience managing Elasticsearch at scale, including cluster topology, shard sizing, replica strategy, resource limits, Java Virtual Machine tuning, recovery practices, reallocation, rolling upgrades, and snapshot impact.
- Demonstrated experience with database management using Amazon Relational Database Service or similar relational database services, including writing SQL queries, optimizing performance, and integrating with backend applications.
- Demonstrated experience with version control systems such as Git and continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
- Demonstrated experience building and operating extract, transform, load pipelines for very large datasets with production-grade reliability.
- Demonstrated experience with TypeScript and JavaScript for backend development, Node.js frameworks such as Express, asynchronous programming with async/await and Promises, and the Elasticsearch JavaScript/TypeScript client.
- Demonstrated experience with Python, Bash, or Go for automation, tooling, data processing, and runbook scripting.
- Demonstrated experience writing and optimizing complex SQL queries in relation to upstream data modeling.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate trade-offs between latency, throughput, and infrastructure cost, including index retention and storage tiers.
- Demonstrated extensive Terraform experience, including authoring modules, composition patterns, remote state backends and locks using Amazon S3, workspaces, provider and version locking, and idempotent infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience with Amazon Web Services networking, including VPC design, subnets, route tables, internet gateways, NAT, Transit Gateway, VPC peering, PrivateLink, VPC endpoints, security groups, network access control lists, Direct Connect, VPN, and network and application load balancers.
- Demonstrated experience with Git-based workflows and Terraform automation pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Jenkins.
- Demonstrated experience with Transport Layer Security, encryption at rest, identity and access management policies or roles, secrets management using Vault or AWS Secrets Manager, network segmentation, audit logging, and compliance controls.
- Demonstrated experience with performance tuning, including Java Virtual Machine heap sizing, garbage collection tuning, file descriptors and ulimits, operating system settings, thread pools, merge and refresh tuning, and bulk and ingest optimizations.
- Demonstrated experience with disaster recovery and capacity planning for large datasets, including tested backup and restore procedures and runbooks.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and performance-tuning capabilities for extract, transform, load jobs and Node.js backends, with the ability to work across all layers of the stack and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated experience with security and cost optimization patterns, including right-sizing, reserved instances or savings plans, and tiered storage.
- Demonstrated strong troubleshooting skills using Elasticsearch APIs, logs, Java Virtual Machine garbage collection analysis, thread-pool diagnostics, and operating-system metrics.
- US citizenship is required.
- An active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance with a Full Scope Polygraph is required.
- The position is expected to be on-site within the Washington Metropolitan Area, with local travel as needed.
