HistoWiz provides automated histopathology services for researchers in academia, biotech, and pharma. Clients mail formalin-fixed tissue samples to HistoWiz, where tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining are done with automation and then scanned into high-resolution whole-slide images that are uploaded to PathologyMap™, a cloud platform for viewing, managing, and sharing results. The company differentiates itself with end-to-end automation, a centralized digital platform, a large preclinical slide database for data mining, and on-demand access to board-certified pathologists for consultations. Its goal is to streamline preclinical histology workflows, speed up drug discovery and research, and make digital pathology data easy to access, analyze, and share.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • HistoWiz launched GLP-compliant services in May 2024, expanding pharmaceutical research demand.
  • PathologyMap 2.0 and Block Manager, launched 2024, tighten customer lock-in.
  • Protege's March 2025 partnership expands HistoWiz slide digitization into AI model training.

What critics are saying

  • Proscia raised $50 million in March 2025, intensifying software competition in pathology.
  • Tempus launched Paige Predict in January 2026, stealing AI workflow attention and budgets.
  • If HistoWiz stays niche-preclinical, larger platforms can own clinical-adjacent pathology workflows first.

What makes HistoWiz unique

  • PathologyMap 2.0 unifies slide digitization, metadata, AI analysis, and sharing.
  • HistoWiz paired with Pramana in 2023 for high-throughput whole-slide imaging.
  • Its 2025 PathologyOutlines integration makes publication-ready slides frictionless for researchers.
