PPS, Ditch Witch and The Toro Company partner to bring new Story Walk to walking trail. Perry Public Schools is excited to announce a new addition to the walking trail at Perry Junior High that combines literacy, outdoor recreation, and community engagement, all thanks to a partnership with Ditch Witch and The Toro Company. In the spring, Ditch Witch Giving Ambassador Michele Custer reached out to the school district about collaborating on a meaningful project during Global Volunteer Month. At the same time, Perry Junior High teacher Shelynn Kelly had been thinking of a way to enhance the school's walking trail while creating something the entire community could enjoy. The result is a brand-new Story Walk, an interactive outdoor reading experience that encourages families, students, and community members to stay active while enjoying a great book together. The Story Walk features a series of display boards placed along a walking trail, allowing visitors to read a story two pages at a time as they walk. The free activity is designed for readers of all ages. "When offered the chance to partner with Ditch Witch and The Toro Company, it was an immediate yes," said Ms. Kelly. "I wanted a project that made 'Earth Day every day' for our whole community. Through our monthly Story Walk, complete with student-researched nature facts, our class is thrilled to give something back to everyone." Custer said the partnership was a perfect fit for Ditch Witch and The Toro Company's commitment to giving back. "We were excited to partner with the school for Global Volunteer Month because this project allows us to directly support students while strengthening our local community." Ms. Kelly's Foundational Learning class will take ownership of the project by changing the featured story throughout the year, giving visitors a new experience with each visit. Students will also incorporate nature facts they have researched, adding an educational component that encourages curiosity about the environment. The first story has already been installed and is ready for the community to enjoy before the new school year begins. The Story Walk begins at the south end of the pond and follows the existing walking trail west before looping back across the bridge, creating an enjoyable path for readers and walkers alike. To follow the path more easily, and keep your place in the story, the pages are numbered. In addition to funding the Story Walk displays, Ditch Witch and TTC also donated two new trash receptacles for the trail, helping keep the area clean and beautiful for everyone who visits. Perry Public Schools extends its sincere gratitude to Ditch Witch and TTC, and everyone who helped bring this creative vision to life. Their generosity has created a lasting resource that promotes literacy, outdoor activity, environmental awareness, and community connection. "We are incredibly excited to offer something that people of all ages can enjoy," said Superintendent Chad Wilson. "This project is a wonderful example of what can happen when local organizations and schools work together to invest in our community." Community members are invited to visit the Story Walk and experience it for themselves. The Perry Junior High walking trail is open to the public outside of school hours. Once school begins in August, the trail will be closed on school days from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to ensure student safety. Published July 27, 2026

Toro Spatial Adjust & turfRad data testimonial. How Ravenna Country Club is making smarter irrigation decisions with Spatial Adjust. Every golf course is unique. Different elevations, different soil types, varying sun exposure, changing weather patterns, and countless microclimates all influence how turf performs. For golf course superintendents, making the right irrigation decisions has always been one of the most important - and challenging - parts of maintaining exceptional playing conditions. That's why Ravenna Country Club turned to Toro's Spatial Adjust(TM), powered by turfRad(R) data. "About a year ago we were spending about an hour and a half making daily adjustments and probably accounting for 100 changes a day. Using Spatial Adjust, it's about a 10-minute review, and we're making 400 changes a day." - Steve Datwyler, Director of Agronomy, Ravenna Country Club As the course is mowed or as you drive the course, turfRad sensors continuously collect thousands of soil moisture readings across the property. Toro's Spatial Adjust then uses that data within the Toro Lynx(R) Central Control system to automatically recommend sprinkler-by-sprinkler irrigation adjustments, helping the team make smarter, data-driven watering decisions. For Ravenna, the goal wasn't simply to use less water. It was to better understand what was happening across the course so the team could irrigate more precisely, improve consistency, and continue delivering exceptional playing conditions. In the video below, Steve shares how combining turfRad's advanced moisture mapping with Toro's Spatial Adjust has transformed Ravenna's irrigation management, allowing the team to make more adjustments in less time while achieving more consistent course conditions. "After about three weeks of using Spatial Adjust, we really realized the consistency of our golf course. It's just never been as good as it is." - Steve Datwyler, Director of Agronomy, Ravenna Country Club Investing in the future of golf course management. Technology continues to change how golf courses operate. Today's superintendents have access to tools that simply weren't available a decade ago - allowing them to be more proactive, more efficient, and more precise than ever before. Ravenna's experience shows how adopting innovative technology can improve day-to-day decision-making while supporting the long-term health of the golf course. Why this matters even more in Colorado today. While Ravenna adopted Spatial Adjust as part of its commitment to better course management, the benefits have become even more significant as Colorado continues to face ongoing drought conditions and increasing pressure to conserve water. Water is one of the most valuable resources any golf course manages. Technologies that help superintendents make smarter irrigation decisions don't just improve efficiency - they can also play an important role in reducing unnecessary water use while maintaining exceptional playing conditions. For golf courses looking to prepare for the future, tools like Spatial Adjust are becoming more than just a convenience - they're an investment in long-term sustainability. L.L. Johnson can help. At L.L. Johnson, L.L. Johnson Distributing Co. work with golf course superintendents throughout Colorado to identify innovative irrigation technologies that improve efficiency, conserve water, and support outstanding course conditions. Whether you're exploring new irrigation tools or looking for ways to better manage water across your course, its Golf Irrigation team is here to help. Contact L.L. Johnson Distributing Co. today to learn more about Spatial Adjust and other water-saving solutions available through L.L. Johnson.
