Requirements
  • At least 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Legal secretarial experience, knowledge of legal terminology, and knowledge of court procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple projects and case work.
  • Ability to interact and engage with people from diverse ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and execute activities to meet project objectives.
  • Experience providing leadership and direction for day-to-day project operations and administrative activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and data management systems.
  • Experience working on immigration issues.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to drive to ICE detention facilities in San Bernardino, Kern, Imperial, and San Diego counties.
  • An unexpired REAL ID Act-compliant identity document is required to access ICE detention centers and pass through internal Border Patrol checkpoints.
Responsibilities
  • Support the Project Director and Immigration Clinic supervising attorneys.
  • Conduct intake and follow-up interviews with detained prospective clients and family members through in-person meetings, video calls, or telephone calls.
  • Process Immigrant Defense Bar Panel member applications.
  • Assess cases for placement with Bar Panel members.
  • Manage and track cases.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Assist with reviewing Bar Panel member invoices and payments.
  • Travel regularly to ICE detention facilities in Southern California, including facilities in Adelanto and, as needed, Kern, Imperial, and San Diego counties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with immigration court proceedings, including removal and bond proceedings, and habeas litigation.
  • Three years of experience.
  • Specialized or technical training.
