About the company

Baker Hughes makes equipment and runs field services for oil and gas producers, LNG plant operators, pipeline companies and industrial power users. Its products cover the whole gas chain, from drill bits and well completions to the compressors and turbines that chill natural gas into liquid for export. Its oilfield arm drills, completes and maintains wells, while its industrial arm designs, builds and services turbomachinery, valves and monitoring software. It earns money from equipment sales, project work and long-term service agreements that keep installed machines running. The current company formed in 2017 when Baker Hughes combined with GE's oil and gas business, and it is based in Houston.

What believers are saying

  • Equipment orders are booming: its industrial unit's bookings doubled to a record $7.1 billion from April to June 2026.
  • Data center power is a growth market: in July 2026, Dynamis disclosed an order for 76 of its gas turbines.
  • Flexible work is official policy: its 2025 annual report lists hybrid schedules, compressed workweeks and remote options.

What critics are saying

  • Oilfield work is slipping: that unit's revenue fell 5% and earnings 11% year over year from April to June 2026.
  • Some staff are changing owners: in April 2026 it agreed to sell its Waygate inspection unit to Swedish firm Hexagon.
  • Cuts are reaching Houston: 147 jobs at its Emmott Road plant are being eliminated from July 2026 into spring 2027.

What makes Baker Hughes unique

  • Half its sales are machines, not well services: turbines and compressors brought 49% of second-quarter 2026 revenue.
  • Careers here go global: over 45,000 of its roughly 56,000 employees work outside the US, in 85-plus countries.
  • Its reach runs past oil: buying equipment maker Chart in July 2026 added cooling gear for LNG and data centers.

Baker Hughes signs power island deal with Venture Global and GE Vernova for up to 16 sites

Baker Hughes has signed a Power Frame Agreement with Venture Global and GE Vernova to supply gas and steam turbines, controls and electrical systems for up to 16 behind the meter power islands. The islands would support US liquefied natural gas (LNG) production and potential data centre projects, with deliveries from 2028 to 2034. The deal adds long-dated orders and backlog depth more than near-term earnings. The key swing factor remains the integration of Chart Industries and its margin and cost targets. Analysts expect revenue to grow 8.8% a year to $35.7 billion, and earnings to rise from $3.1 billion to $3.7 billion by 2029. More cautious analysts forecast revenue of about $34.8 billion and earnings near $3.5 billion.
