Javelin Global Commodities

View

Javelin Global Commodities trades and markets a broad range of physical commodities, including coal, iron ore, steel inputs, hydrocarbons, and freight, offering marketing, trading, hedging, logistics, and financing to clients worldwide. It functions like a merchant bank, providing risk management and working-capital financing to help clients lock margins in volatile markets. Founded by Peter Bradley and Spencer Sloan, former Goldman Sachs leaders, the firm differentiates itself through deep physical trading expertise, strategic partnerships, and a growing role as a major coal exporter, while expanding into greener energy and carbon-related products with ITOCHU as a minority investor. Its goal is to create value for producers by optimizing sales and for consumers by sourcing cost-effective raw materials, while expanding into green energy and sustainable steel inputs.

What believers are saying

  • Battery Mineral Resources hired Javelin on September 11, 2026 for copper marketing and financing.
  • Cavalier signed Javelin’s July 2026 gold prepayment and offtake option, expanding metals exposure.
  • Strategic Resources still targets Javelin’s US$150 million working-capital facility, deepening iron ore relationships.

What critics are saying

  • Blackjewel’s March 2026 lawsuit keeps Javelin in federal court over tortious interference claims.
  • Javelin remains coal-heavy; cleaner power mandates and steel decarbonization pressure volumes by 2030.
  • A bad prepayment or offtake loss could freeze financing and cripple trading balance-sheet trust.

What makes Javelin Global Commodities unique

  • Javelin spans 20 commodities across six continents, adding logistics, financing, and hedging.
  • ITOCHU bought a minority stake in August 2024, validating Javelin’s Asian distribution push.
  • Javelin markets coal and green steel inputs, bridging legacy fuels and decarbonization.
