About the job
- A minimum of five years of legal experience in a private law firm and/or local government law department.
- Active Ohio Bar admission or the ability to obtain it promptly.
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage matters independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
- Provide day-to-day legal counsel to municipal clients, including attendance at council and board meetings as needed.
- Draft and review ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and policies.
- Advise clients on compliance with Ohio statutes governing public entities.
- Represent municipalities in administrative proceedings and litigation matters.
- Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
- Experience advising municipalities or other public entities in land use and zoning.
- Experience advising municipalities or other public entities in public records and open meetings.
- Experience advising municipalities or other public entities in public contracts and procurement.
- Experience advising municipalities or other public entities in governmental and sovereign immunity or liability.
- Experience advising municipalities or other public entities in public-sector employment and labor matters.
- Experience litigating involving or defending governmental entities.
- Experience representing private parties interfacing with local governments.

Claybourne IV has joined the firm as an associate in its Business Litigation Group. Asmus has joined the firm's Toledo office as Of Counsel in the Products & Transportation Group. Asmus focuses her practice on liability defense in Ohio and Michigan. Her practice includes the defense of commercial disputes, general liability, product liability, professional liability, workplace injury claims, employment discrimination matters and unfair labor practice claims. Asmus also counsels businesses on employment practices and policies, employee investigations and claims from the administrative stage through the court of appeals. In addition, Asmus advises municipal clients on public records requests, municipal appeals, employment contracts and commercial disputes. She also provides coverage opinions to insurers and defends bad faith, policy dispute, general liability, and third-party no-fault claims.
