August 28, 2026 RAPID CITY, S.D. - Monument Health's Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) announced the addition of three new physicians to its team: Shazia Aziz, M.D., Nebojsa Markovic, M.D. and Rhythm Vasudeva, M.D. The additions mark the latest step in HVI's long-running investment in bringing highly skilled cardiovascular care to western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. This allows patients to have access to high-quality advanced heart and vascular treatment, close to home. Today, HVI is home to the largest group of cardiovascular specialists in western South Dakota, spanning cardiology, vascular medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, vascular and endovascular surgery, advanced cardiac imaging, advanced heart failure, interventional cardiology and electrophysiology. The three new physicians add further depth to that team. Dr. Aziz is a fellowship-trained cardiologist who trained at Christiana Care Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. August 25, 2026 The American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines(R)- Stroke Rural Recognition Silver award recognizes efforts to address the unique health needs of rural communities RAPID CITY, SD (Aug. 25, 2026) - People who live in rural communities live an average of three years fewer than urban counterparts and have a 40% higher likelihood of developing heart disease and face a 30% increased risk for stroke mortality, according to an American Heart Association's presidential advisory on rural health. Monument Health is committed to changing that. For its efforts to optimize stroke care and reduce gaps in rural health outcomes, Monument Health has received the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines(R)- Stroke Rural Recognition Silver award. Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the U.S, according to the American Heart Association's 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report. Monument Health breaks ground on Children's Expansion at Rapid City Hospital. July 23, 2026 RAPID CITY, S.D. (July 23, 2026) - Monument Health broke ground today on the Children's Hospital Expansion at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, marking the start of construction on a $48 million project that will transform care for mothers, babies and children across western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. The 63,000 square foot addition will include 19 Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum (LDRP). The LDRP model allows a family to remain in one room throughout labor, delivery, recovery and postpartum care rather than moving between units, supporting continuity of care and a more comfortable experience for new families. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will move from an open bay environment to 25 private and semi private rooms, made up of 17 private rooms and four twin bays. The change gives families more privacy and a better healing environment during what is often an extended and difficult stay. "This expansion has been years in the making, and it reflects a promise Monument Health made to the families of western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming," said Paulette Davidson, President and CEO of Monument Health. "As our region grows, so does the need for specialized care for our smallest and most vulnerable patients. This is Monument Health investing in the future of our communities." As labor and delivery and NICU services move into the new space, Monument Health will backfill and expand pediatric services within the existing Children's footprint. Monument Health expands operations in Gillette. July 1, 2026 RAPID CITY, S.D. (July 1, 2026) - Monument Health today announced it will lease the Gillette, Wyo., clinic and equipment formerly home to Hoskinson Health & Wellness Clinic, operating a multi-specialty clinic and employing providers and staff. The announcement follows Hoskinson's decision to cease operations. Monument Health and the Hoskinson team are working together to minimize any disruption to patient care as the transition progresses. "From the beginning, our goal was to bring Mayo Clinic-level care to the people of Gillette. This transition to a Mayo Clinic Care Network member means that vision is now a reality.
