About GovWell
We the people (and the taxpayers) deserve effective government. But the software powering government services is 20 years behind the private sector. GovWell’s mission is to build modern software products to help government serve communities better. After launching April 2023, we raised $1 million in seed funding and today more than 120,000 citizens in 5 states rely on GovWell products to access essential government services.
Founding Story
Our mission is deeply personal for us. Ben Cohen, Co-founder and CTO grew up helping his father — a general contractor — to apply for hundreds of construction permits. Ben’s experiences navigating clunky, outdated government websites inspired him to build better solutions for the millions of tradespeople whose livelihoods depend on getting permits fast. Prior to founding GovWell, Ben worked for Uber and Amazon as a Software Engineer, and earned his AB in Computer Science summa cum laude from Princeton.
Troy LeCaire, Co-founder and CEO, was employee #1 and Chief of Staff at RippleMatch, a B2B SaaS company, helping it grow from 0 to $10M in annual revenue and a $200M valuation. Before RippleMatch, he worked for two senators from his home state of Wisconsin. He believes passionately in the potential for technology to help government work more effectively for citizens everywhere. Troy earned his BA in Government magna cum laudefrom Cornell.
Who we’re looking for
Our second Business Development hire (Employee #3) to help drive new revenue growth. This position reports to Troy LeCaire, Co-founder and CEO.
Location
The founders are both located in New York, NY and work in person in our Manhattan office 3-4x a week. We strongly prefer candidates in NYC for this role.
What you’ll do
Own our top-of-funnel, working to identify and engage potential customers via phone, email, and occasionally in-person events / conferences.
Speak via phone with local government decision-makers to uncover needs and qualify opportunities before passing them to the CEO.
Autonomously iterate on our outreach strategies. On a given day, you might write a new email sequence, revamp your cold call script, travel to attend a conference, or decide that a value proposition we hadn’t considered before is actually what resonates best with prospects.
Hustle, a lot. Compared to a larger company, you’ll have way more autonomy to shape business development strategy, but at the end of the day we need someone who can get sh*t done and execute.
Help define our company culture as an exciting place to work and grow.
Learn how to build a company from zero to one (great if you want to be a founder someday!).
Who you are
A confident communicator who enjoys talking to people, especially on the phone. Local government has a heavy phone culture, so you should be comfortable and confident with high volume cold calling (80+ dials / day).
A fast learner who can grasp new concepts quickly.
A creative person who enjoys coming up with new ideas, not just following the standard playbook.
A resilient personality who is used to hearing many “nos” before getting to a “yes”.
What we like to see
Track record of exceptional performance in roles requiring high volume cold outreach, especially via phone.
Evidence of extreme discipline and work ethic, a “whatever it takes” mentality.
Demonstrated interest in public service / government.
Strong alignment with our Core Values.
Familiarity with sales engagement and CRM software like Outreach and Salesforce.
Salary and benefits
Competitive base salary and uncapped earnings.
Meaningful equity.
Up to 100% premiums covered for medical, dental, and vision insurance for yourself and partner.
Unlimited / flexible PTO.
