About the job

Requirements
  • Have 3–5+ years of experience in social work, case management, community health, benefits navigation, or another barrier-focused support role.
  • Have deep knowledge of, or the ability to quickly learn, public benefits, financial assistance, and community resources available to New Yorkers facing economic hardship.
  • Be comfortable managing a caseload of Builders at different stages, from onboarding through placement, without losing track of anyone.
  • Be a trusted, empathetic presence with whom Builders feel comfortable being honest about their circumstances.
  • Be curious about AI and interested in building tools that make navigating resources easier for Builders and for yourself.
  • Care deeply about equity, technology access, and expanding opportunity for underrepresented communities.
Responsibilities
  • Own Builder persistence as the core outcome, staying connected to each Builder's situation from onboarding through job placement.
  • Proactively identify barriers to persistence, including financial hardship, transportation, childcare, health, or other life circumstances, through regular check-ins and attention to early warning signs.
  • Provide a steady, encouraging presence for Builders working through internal barriers such as confidence, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome, as well as practical barriers.
  • Connect Builders directly to resources and partners that address barriers, including public benefits, emergency assistance, childcare, and transportation support.
  • Build and continuously expand Pursuit's external partnerships and resources by identifying new options proactively.
  • Use AI tools to build lightweight tools that help Builders navigate available resources themselves.
  • Partner with Instructors and Career Coaches to flag Builders who need support and coordinate a plan across the team.
  • Track patterns in the barriers Builders face and share them with leadership to inform program design.
Desired Qualifications
  • Be a resourceful problem-solver who persists in trying to secure needed support for a Builder, even after an initial refusal.

About the company

Pursuit helps underrepresented adults access technology careers through two offerings: the Pursuit Fellowship, a one-year, intensive training program in New York City with no upfront costs, followed by three years of on-the-job support and career development; and Pursuit Commit, which helps employers hire, retain, and nurture engineers from non-traditional backgrounds with ongoing training. The Fellowship is funded by Pursuit and by partnerships with employers, and Pursuit is exploring financing options like municipal bonds to fund its programs as community investments. The model emphasizes long-term support and workforce diversification rather than upfront tuition. The goal is to expand access to high-paying tech roles and build sustainable career paths for underserved communities.
