About the job

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial systems, finance technology, or accounting transformation, including at least 4 years leading revenue accounting systems or comparable financial platform initiatives.
  • 5+ years of people management experience, including developing teams and leading through complex, cross-functional change.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and ASC 606, with demonstrated ability to translate accounting policies into system requirements, accounting rules, and controls.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering closely with product, engineering, or data teams to deliver financial systems implementations, integrations, or automation—from requirements and testing through deployment and ongoing operations.
  • Strong understanding of subledgers, reconciliation frameworks, automated journal processing, and financial data flows, with the ability to investigate complex accounting and systems issues.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the revenue accounting systems strategy and roadmap. Define the accounting systems vision and prioritize investments with FinTech, FinEng, and Accounting Operations. Balance platform modernization, financial reporting risk, business growth, and operational efficiency, with measurable outcomes for automation, data quality, and close readiness.
  • Own the accounting design across the transaction-to-ledger lifecycle. Partner with engineering and product teams on how business events, billing activity, collections, settlements, and disbursements translate into accounting entries. Ensure accounting requirements are consistently reflected in subledger design, journal generation, and general ledger integrations.
  • Govern accounting rules, configurations, and financial data definitions. Lead the accounting requirements and governance for account mappings, transaction classifications, legal entity attribution, and business model changes. Establish controlled, repeatable processes that make configurations easier to maintain, validate, and scale.
  • Strengthen financial data integrity and traceability. Define requirements for completeness, accuracy, timeliness, and lineage across source systems, accounting platforms, and the general ledger. Partner with technical teams to investigate mapping errors, reconciliation breaks, and other data issues—and drive sustainable upstream solutions rather than recurring manual adjustments.
  • Build scalable reconciliation and monitoring capabilities. Partner with FinTech and Data Science to develop transaction-level subledgers, automated reconciliations, health checks, and exception workflows. Improve visibility into balances, aging, entity-level discrepancies, and emerging financial risks before they affect the close.
  • Drive close automation and accounting self-service. Expand system-generated journal entries, automated accruals and reclassifications, and standardized close workflows. Enable accounting teams to manage approved activities through controlled self-service tools, reducing repetitive work and unnecessary engineering dependencies.
  • Lead accounting readiness for system changes and launches. Translate business needs and accounting policies into clear requirements, acceptance criteria, and test scenarios. Lead accounting-side user acceptance testing, parallel-run validation, migration reconciliation, and go-live readiness for platform changes, new products, market expansions, and acquired businesses.
  • Embed controls into platform design and operations. Own accounting application controls and partner with Engineering, IT, and control owners on relevant IT general controls. Ensure appropriate approvals, change governance, access controls, audit trails, and evidence retention are built into automated processes. Support internal and external audits and drive remediation of identified gaps.
  • Advance responsible automation and AI adoption. Identify opportunities to improve exception investigation, reconciliation analysis, flux commentary, and other accounting workflows using automation and AI. Establish clear validation, human review, and control requirements before scaling solutions into production.
  • Build a high-performing team and influence across functions. Develop accounting systems managers and analysts who combine accounting expertise, analytical rigor, and technical curiosity. Establish clear ownership and success measures, manage cross-functional dependencies, and communicate priorities and trade-offs effectively to senior finance and technology leaders.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience within fintech, payments, digital marketplaces, or another high-volume, transaction-intensive business—or within a dedicated financial technology organization supporting accounting and finance.
  • Revenue accounting or financial systems leadership experience at a public company, including supporting SOX compliance and external audits.
  • Experience with transaction-level accounting, payment and settlement flows, receivables and payables subledgers, multi-entity accounting, and multi-currency environments.
  • Practical SQL and data analysis skills, with the ability to trace financial activity across datasets, assess data quality, and validate system outputs.
  • Experience with Oracle or comparable enterprise ERP platforms and their integrations with custom-built accounting engines, billing platforms, and reconciliation tools.
  • A track record of delivering platform migrations, accounting rules redesign, self-service capabilities, or finance transformation programs with measurable improvements in automation, control effectiveness, or close efficiency.
  • Experience applying AI or advanced automation to finance workflows while maintaining explainability, appropriate review, and auditability.
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to explain accounting risks to technical audiences and technical trade-offs to finance leaders.

Uber's 12.1% operating margin tops rivals, but investors pay less for it than for JB Hunt

Uber Technologies keeps a larger share of sales as operating profit than four rivals in ride-hailing, delivery and freight. Its operating margin reached 12.1% over the past twelve months, up from a loss equal to 1.6% of sales three years ago. Free cash flow topped $10 billion for the first time. Yet investors pay less per dollar of Uber's earnings than for three peers. Uber trades at 15.2 times earnings, against 32.0 for JB Hunt and 99.7 for DoorDash. Uber stock fell 23.6% over twelve months, while JB Hunt rose 68.4%. Revenue growth slowed to 12.2% in the second quarter of 2026, while gross bookings grew 22%. Management blamed part of the gap on a UK business model change. Uber plans to invest $10 billion in autonomous vehicles. It has not yet sized the effect on profit.
